What I recommend is to boot in safe mode. The step for booting in safe mode is when the logo pop-up press F8 key, then you should have a menu to select, pick the first..."boot in safe mode"
When you're in safe-mode windows will ask you to restore back
your system, please select yes to do.You'll be able to select the
date that windows backup the system for you,try as many until the one that work for you.
Best of luck,takecare.

I just bought a brand new Toshiba Satellite P75-A7200. It won't play DVD's and keeps saying wrong area code...I live in Australia, bought the PC in Australia and am trying to play Australian DVD's but

hi, I think this may help. what you need to do first of all is change the default player for DVD's from Toshiba Video Player to Windows Media Player, cant remember off hand how to do that but should be in manual, but try this. go to windows control panel, select 'Default Programs' and click on it, then select 1st option 'Set Your Default Programs' a list of all programs will come up, look for Windows Media Player and click on it, then choose one of the options on the right. The top one sets as default, the bottom one allows you to set file types to open with the program. this should work as it is telling your system to launch that program for DVD's etc, If you cant find your control panel, simply click Start and type it in the little box that appears just above it.
hope this helps

Blue screen compaq presario windows xp sp2 cq40

Did you just install a new program or a piece of hardware, update a driver, install an update, etc.? If so, there's a very good chance that the change you made caused the BSOD:
Startup using Last Known Good Configuration to undo recent registry and driver changes.
Use System Restore to undo recent system changes.
Roll Back device driver to version prior to your driver update.

Scan your computer for viruses. Some viruses can cause a Blue Screen of Death, especially ones that infect the master boot record (MBR) or boot sector.

Update drivers for your hardware. Most Blue Screens of Death are hardware or driver related so updated drivers could fix the cause of the STOP error.

Return hardware settings to default in Device Manager. Unless you have a specific reason to do so,the system resources that an individual piece of hardware is configured to use in Device Manager should be set to default. Non-default hardware settings have been known to cause a Blue Screen of Death.

Return BIOS settings to their default levels. An overclocked or misconfigured BIOS can cause all sorts of random issues, including BSODs.

If this doesn't helps you then simply get the system utility program like PC Fresher that will fix windows errors that cause of blue screen

Hp laptops. How can I open each program using it's own program.

Select Default Programs is one way. As you install, say a media player, in the install you will see something like Choose as Default for all media or select media to open with this software, every Media player will offer this option and will default to ALL media, so with every install it will change, unless you read each box during install, don't just blindly click next, it's been known to add unnecessary Toolbars, change your Home Page, add Malware, etc., etc., etc. Which I'm sure you are aware of. You can open the File location, music, video, etc. right click, select Open With, select media player, OR, right click, select file, select Properties, Change, apply. OR use the Default Programs on the start menu. Take a look at this, you didn't post your Make, Model of Laptop or the OS you are using, for Win7: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/change-which-programs-windows-uses-by-default

My system shows a blue screen

What kind of blue screen? Do you mean it gives you a blue screen then your computer restarts or is your media playing software only displaying a blue screen?

If the latter then it will be due to codecs you need to install, what media playing software are you using?
VLC Media Player will play almost anything without having to mess around with codecs for programs such as Windows Media Player

Cannot start in normal mode without blue screen popping up

Duing the startup, can you hit F8 just after the bios shows. You should see a list. If you choose, last known good configuration, what happens? If it blue screen's again, can you startup in safe mode? This is also a item on the list from F8.

Did you install any drivers recently, in the last day or two?

If so, when you boot into safemode, uninstall that driver and try to boot to windows normally.
