You didn't list either model of filter or pump. You probably can use a 2hp pump, but it should be sized properly. Too big of a pump wastes energy, too small won't keep pool clean
Here is a link to Hayward web site for filter sizing.
You can also download manuals for both pumps and filters there.

I have a Intex Sand Filter Pump SF15110. Can I upgrade the from the 1/2 hP to 1 HP motor

I have the same problem and put a 1HP pump on my system and too much flow. So you can not increase by that much. Need to stay at 1/2 HP and they are impossible to find. End up buying whole new intex system.

We will be replacing a Hayward 1.5 HP motor for our pool with 120 GPM filter. Should I replace with another 1.5 HP, or would it be better to repalce with a 2.0 HP motor? Any downside? Thank you -

Actually, a pool really does not require you to up size the motor. Most pools should be plumbed with a 3/4 HP or 1 HP pool pump (though my preference is a variable speed).
A good rule of thumb for simple understanding is that you can OVER PUMP a filter, but you cannot OVER FILTER a pump. So having a larger filter is not a problem. As long as the pool is turning over 1 - 1.5 times during a run cycle, your existing pump will be just fine.
Here is something else to think about; having a larger filter and still maintaining the smaller pump from your previous filter allows the water MORE TIME to filtrate in your filter. The pressure on the filter will be reduced, causing less stress to the components of the pool system, and the water will come out cleaner, taking advantage of the filtration area of your filter.
Also, if you try to up or down size a pump without changing out the impeller or some of the more critical operating components, you would not see a major difference in performance. Also, you could cause damage to the existing pump.

How do you backwash to lower water level with the Pinnacle pump?

The model of pump doesn't really matter,You backwash the filter by changing the position of the backwash valve (while the pump is off). If you have a D.E. filter, be sure to add fresh D.E. powder to the filter when you are back in "filter" position.

Accurate pressure for 2 hp ag hayward pool pump

the psi range is normal and will fluctuate with the cleaniness of the filter. Depending on wether or not you have a Sand filter or an Earth Filter, you should periodically backwash(for sand) and "bump" for the earth filters. You will notice that the psi will lower back down to the lower psi range. This indicates that your water is flowing freely with little resistance.

Just bought a used hayward filter, about 4 years old need diagram.

Line from skimmer connects to front of pump, top of pump connects to inlet of filter and outlet of filter goes to pool returns. Inlet and outlet of filter should be marked on filter and most Hayward filters that use backwash valves have valves that come pre plumbed to fit filters. Hope that helps, with pictures or models of filter and backwash valves that's about all I can tell you. God luck
