This radio will only work on analog trunked systems, if it is a digital or P25 system, you need to upgrade to a digital scanner like the PRO96, or newer.

My BCT8 Scans great on conventional scan as well as Truck Tracking. Only issue is that it will occasionally stop on a Trunking Frequency, and then won't start again. Not sure if there is a setting or not....

trunking usually incorporates a data frequency. sometimes it is stationary, and sometimes it is random. depending on the radio system in your area, it may be one or both. if it is consistent, just l/o that channel. i seriously doubt it has anything to do with your receiver or the firmware. Trunking is supposed to be hard to track, that's the point. the problem you're encountering is part of the system.
i would try to research the trunking system, if you can find that out, you can narrow down if it's a data channel or not. anything that is broadcast on the data channel (verbally) is also on another channel. just l/o.

Hi - I don't know any frequencies to enter on my PRO-94. Is there a way that I can just scan all local channels?

You can run service searches as described in your manual to locate active frequencies, but those won't help with trunked systems. You can find a comprehensive database of active frequencies in your area, and a lot of other useful scanning information, by visiting:

How to program a radio shack pro 163 police scanner

The 163 is a trunking scanner, so programming instructions are long and detailed, and they vary for each type of trunking system. Programming instructions are best explained in the factory operating manual. If you don't already have it, you can download/print the manual here:

http://www.scancat.com/OnLineHelp/OEM_Radio_Owners_Manuals/PRO-163-164-OWNERS%20MANUAL_2000164_PM_EN.pdf

You may also want to join a users group for the 163. Check Yahoo or just Google PRO-163.

For a comprehensive database of active frequencies and systems in your area, visit:

www.RadioReference.com

The site also has information that explains the workings of trunking systems, links to users groups, and a lot of other useful scanning information.

800 MHz frequency Mode problem

You have to program it TRUNKING mode when you enter the control channel frequencies. It is decoding okay as the MO shows motorola control channel and +DG means digital decoded and an OPEN group. You need to press the 'trunk' button everytime a talkgroup comes up that you want it to remember for future 'closed' group (-DG) talk groups. I suggest you go to 'RadioReference DOT com" and there are many forums there for your radio, as well as one or two YAHOO GROUPS specifically for your scanner. 73's

I am looking into getting the Uniden Bearcat BC60XLT1 scanner Is this scanner capable of trunking? I guess my local police dept uses trunking freq.s

This scanner does not do the 800 Mhz trunk tracking that you are looking for. A synopsis and link to the manual can be found below:

http://www.usascan.com/files/bc60.html

Typically, a trunk tracking capable radio will cost in excess of a couple hundred dollars - significantly more depending on digital capabilities.

Your first step should be determining which services (public safety, public works, ambulance, taxi, military, ham, etc.) you're interested in monitoring. Next, list the communities in your area and search for the frequencies they use. You can find this by googling the Town,State Scanner Frequency like this:

Boston, MA scanner frequencies

Broaden your scope by substituting your county for the Town or simply search on your state. You should find links to entire directories of listings, and groups of people interested in scanner monitoring. Talk with those people or store sales personnel about a particular scanner's suitability to monitoring a certain type of service, frequency, mode, etc.

Once you've collected this info, do some research on equipment and see what fits in your budget. Ask questions in user groups for scanning and radios, too.

I hope this helps - good luck!

On my scanneri have trunking what is that

trunking is a system where many radios use a few channels, the radios scan through the channels and find one that is not busy, then when you key up the transmitter it sends out a signal to the other radios in the group and switches them to the same frequency. There are at least 3 different trunkings systems that i know of, maybe more by now, but this is a basic explanation of how they work.

Hello majorhart, I have never owned this model scanner, but by looking at the owners manual I see there is a keylock, which locks the keypad.
If you need a copy of the manual, go here and download.

Trunking frequencies

Did you initialize your scanner? If you did, then you also deleted your trunking banks (1-9). These are the banks that store the channels that were inputted by you. The scanner will display "All channels locked out," when all of these banks are empty. You may have to put the frequencies in again. I suggest using win97. There is a 30day trial. This is the only program that I know of that will work with this scanner.

The pre-programmed channels should still be there. If you press and hold the scan button for a couple of seconds you should see the signal stalker running.

Good luck.
