I have found that if the room temperature near the computer is too high creates a problem. If the processor is being used at a high rate that will influence the temp sensors and cause the fan to run at the "speed" you hear. (It is on all the time, just different speeds). Other heat producers may not have clean fans or fins, for example display adaptor or power supply. or but unlikely, the
cpu fan interface is not well seated or no heat transfer grease. You didn't change the processor did you?

Cores are like little computers inside the computer itself. The i3 has 2, while the i5 usually has 4. usually the more cores a computer has the better it is at doing background processes.
No. Not the one listed above (socket LGA 1156) You need to look for a mobile CPU (possibly mobile 479). They differ physically and architecturally. Even then you need to establish that the CPU is removable and verify BIOS has support for upgraded chip. Talk to your local repair shop for finale decision.
The steps I would take would be :
1 make sure you have a power supply with the proper power connections and at least 500 Watts
2 remove and reset the power connections, try to boot
3 disconnect all hard drives and cd/dvd's, try to boot
4 remove all ram/memory sticks, try to boot and listen for the beep or beeps
if it doesn't beep and still shuts off, you have a bad motherboard and/or cpu
if it does beep, you need to try different ram

Referring to pin-outs as stated above the socket you are looking for is specifically designed for laptop, desktop pinouts for first generation icore series are sockets 1156 and 1366. for second generation icores socket 1155. In my opinion you need your laptop motherboard repaired or replaced.
You normally cannot swap later model CPU chip to an older motherboard. It is best to purchase a motherboard with a matching CPU and RAM. What you should be looking at is the specification of the motherboard and the built-in devices on the motherboard that suits your computing requirements. A motherboard for high performance gaming is different for one just for Internet and e-mail requirements. Then select one or more well known motherboard manufacturer and check their various models. My preferences are Gigabyte, MSI, and Intel.
