This solution requires partial disassembly of the laptop. Using another person's laptop at hand, go to Dell Support site and enter your Service Tag # from the slender white label from the bottom of your laptop. Find the link for "Manuals". Go to your Service Manual to see visual step by step photos of what follows.

1. Unplug the laptop and remove the main battery.
2. Remove the power strip
3. Remove the keyboard.
4. You will see a small, round, flat, circular silver battery inside a round plastic housing. It's called the CMOS battery. Gently pop it out. Leave it out. Wait ten minutes for all powqer to leave the main system board.
Reverse Steps 3 through 1 and power up the laptop.

You will see a system message asking you to go to setup (F2 Key) because the date and time aren't right. Ignore it. Press F1 key to start normally. If you're back to your desktop, go to the Control Panel and reset the Date and Time there.

If this doesn';t solve the problem, you'll need to find someone with a copy of Hiren's Boot CD who knows how to use it to reset the password to NONE.

If you haven't opened up a laptop before, find a friend who has or be as crazy as I am. It's how I got started in this business. LOL

Good Luck

Which administrator account are you talking about? The 'real' administrator or your normal "administrator group" account? If it's you normal account do you have another account with administrator privileges?
Rather than wait for answers I'll cover the above three possibilities. If it's something else I'll need more input.
1) If it's the real administrator, this is a fairly easy fix (that I had to do the other day because my OEM set a password for the account).
·Open Control Panel > User Accounts and select the option that allows you to change other accounts;
·Select the Administrator account;
·Turn off password required. Changing this option will not require a password.
2) If it's your own account but you have another account on the system with administrator privileges, the procedures above will work as well here.
3) If it's you own account and no other account has administrator privileges it will be much more complicated.
First, make a try at changing the account you are in to administrator. It's unlikely this will work and would be a major security hole, but it's worth a shot.
If that doesn't work, try booting to a command prompt and activating the real administrator. The procedures at this link attached with this post/answer, will walk you through booting to a command prompt. Once at the command prompt type the following two lines:
Net user administrator /active:yesNet user administratorp@ssw0rD Notes: 1) These two lines can be in any order; 2) "p@ssw0rD" is an example, type any password you ; and 3) The password line may not be needed in your case. I added it because my OEM set a password on my new computer. If they did on yours as well, you would have to boot back to a command prompt to change the password later so may as well do it now. You can always turn it off later.
Once you have the real administrator activated, boot back up and logon to the administrator account. Once there, use the procedure from "1)" above. this third possibility may not work, I've never actually had to try it this way, but it makes logical sense.
Good luck.

Lost administrator

There is a hidden admin account. Reboot the computer and tab F8 in one second intervals until you get a menu. Select "Safe Mode". You should see an account Administrator. Click on it and it should login unless someone set a password on it. If it has a password you will need to download the NT Offline password reset tool and boot into that and follow the prompts to remove the password from your account.

Help needed to become a computer administrator

To get into the administator acount, press f8 repeatedly on startup, until an option screen appears. select safe mode, as this is the only way to get into the admin acount on xp. It may prompt for a password, which is the admin password you typed on setup. From the admin acount, you can go into user accounts, and make your normal acount admin.
Hope this helps,
