Question about Canon PIXMA iP8500 InkJet Photo Printer

I changed computers and downloaded new software for the 64 bit system. The light flashes 8 times which the Canon support said it meant the foam in the bottom is saturated. The foam looks brand new and the printer has not been used that much. The printer worked fine before I changed computers. Canon said I should just buy a new printer. Do you think this is correct?

1> Clean the cartridges and the printhead (integrated), clean inside the printer where the cartridge sits.

2> Clean the metal connectors and the spitoon (foam) with a lint free cloth or coffee filter wrapped in a Q-tip.

3> Reset the printer following the User manual if you have it other wise you may download it from the Canon website.

Such printers with scanners built into them are know as Multi Function Printers. It is possible you have downloaded a 'printer only' or generic printer driver software.

Is your system running 64-bit or 32-bit? To find this out, press "start", right click on "computer", then click "properties". There it will specify your "system type" (64-bit or 32-bit). There is no Flash Player for 64-bit Web Browswers available yet. If your computer is running 64-bit, you should try using the 32-bit Internet Explorer (can be found in your list of programs in the start menu).

You can download the software for 64-bit OS from manufacturer's support website by clicking this link

On the page which opens, select the operating system of your computer (Windows XP 64-bit/ Vista 64-bit..) from the drop-down menu (See attached image).

The list of available software and drivers will load only after selecting the operating system of the computer.

This set up is not for a 64 bit windows-when installing printer

My Canon Pixma ip 1600 is 32 bit and my new computer uses 64 bit. How can I use the ip 1600 with my new computer?


For using 64 bit you need to install driver for 64 bit os.
You cna download driver from below link .
Select your operating system there like xp 64 or vista 64 .
Then download driver in computer then install it in computer then you can use it.

If you are looking for a 64-bit driver, just install the 32-bit driver twice!

No LED light


It Should be Plug n Play.... Try disconnecting, Reboot your PC..

Hopefully you are using XP or Newer Operating System.....
Install any software that was included if that doesn't work...

Or you can download the drivers (use the model of the usb flash drive and find software/drivers for it for your specific operating system (windows version)... also be aware that if you are runnning a 32 bit Windows (x86)...... You can't use 64 bit Drivers/software....BUT............ a 64 bit Windows can use either or both.....
