Question about Kenwood Audio Players & Recorders

Trying to locate and/or purchase Remote and Speaker system (including subwoofer, front and surround speakers) for 3 Kenwood stereo components, serial numbers being; 61201391(Tuner), 61101255(Amplifier) and 61201170(C.D. Player). Remote is immediate need as none of the components and speakers will operate without it.

    Hi there, was just wondering if you knew exactly what Im looking for as I was looking but apparently not very well, are there a series of letters or nos that would give clues to the device model? All I could apparently see was the serial numbers but will check as soon as I get the chance.

    Hey me again,

    The only other bits of information I could find on the components are as follows; Kenwood C.D. Player DPM58, Kenwood FM/AM Stereo Tuner T - 58 and Kenwood Stereo Integrated Amplifier A - 58. Im not sure whether this was any help or not, but its the best I could find so hopefully it will shed some light on the situation. But will now check your other suggestions.

    I can assume that the units are as follows (Description / Item No. / Serial No.)
    - Radio T-58L 61201391
    - CD player DP-M58 61201170
    - Amplifier A-58 61101255
    - Record Deck P-38
    - Cassette X-58

    So, I was searching in several sites about this, and dont find it, juts now I know that the 58L is similar to T-93L model (Download Owners Manual) then with this information, I suggest contact to support of the brand device, its possible that they can send other additional details.

How to connect your speakers

In order to deliver surround sound, home theater systems require 5, 6, or even 7 speakers--and that's not even counting the subwoofer. Connecting all those speakers together can be quite a challenge, so here's a quick overview of the basics.

If you don't have an all-in-one, home-theater-in-a-box system, you'll probably need to supply your own speaker cables. There are several different types available--they vary in terms of wire size (or gauges) and termination types. Make sure you pick cable that's a good match for your speakers and receiver. And make sure they're long enough; the rear-channel cables in particular will be stretching all the way around the room.

Once you've selected your system and have all your speakers ready to set up, begin by placing each speaker at or near its intended location. Then, attach the cables to them one by one. After securely fastening one end of the cable to the speaker, connect the other end to the appropriate speaker output on the back of the A/V receiver. Be sure to connect the cable to the correctly labeled output.

For instance, the front-right speaker wire needs to go to the terminal labeled front-right. Also, make sure that each speaker connection is in phase, meaning negative to negative and positive to positive. Otherwise, your system's sound will sound out of whack. Repeat the process for every speaker in your system. Note that the subwoofer uses a coaxial-style RCA cable instead of standard speaker wire.

Once all the wires are connected, you should test the system with several DVDs and CDs, to ensure that everything is in working order.

For our first example, we used an elaborate 7.1-channel system, so it may have 1, 2, or several more speakers than your system. Some systems even employ wireless rear speakers, or virtual surround-surround modes that simulate multichannel experience from 3, 2, or even 1 speaker. And some listeners still prefer good old stereo sound from 2 speakers. No matter what type of speaker setup you prefer, however, the wiring basics remain the same.

How to position surround-sound speakers and a subwoofer
To get the best performance from a surround-sound speaker system, you must install each speaker in the correct location. There are three basic types of surround-sound speaker systems.

  • The 5.1-channel system has five satellite speakers and a subwoofer.

  • 6.1-channel systems have six satellites and a subwoofer.

  • And 7.1-channel systems have seven satellites and a subwoofer.

Start by placing the center speaker either directly above or directly below your TV. The center speaker can be perched atop a direct-view TV or mounted on the wall. Aim the center speaker at ear level.

In most cases, the front-left and front-right speakers can be wall mounted or placed on stands. However, if your speakers have rear-panel bass ports, they should not be wall mounted. Space your front-left and front-right speakers the same distance apart as the distance between your center speaker and your listening position. Position the front-left and front-right speakers no more than two feet above or below the front-center speaker. The tweeters in the front-left and front-right speakers should be roughly at ear level relative to your seating position.

Ideally, the surround-left and surround-right speakers should be mounted on the side walls of your room, slightly behind or parallel to your listening position. If your speakers have rear-panel bass ports, place them on stands instead. If installing the speakers on the side walls isn't practical, you can mount them on the room's rear wall or place them on stands behind your listening position. The surround speakers can be installed up to two feet above the front speakers.

Also, 6.1 surround systems have a back-center speaker. You'll typically mount this on the rear wall of your room, centered behind your seating position. Position the back-center speaker no more than six feet behind the surround-left and surround-right speakers. If your speaker has a rear-panel bass port or if the rear wall is too far behind your seating position, place the back center speaker on a stand instead. The back-center speaker should be installed at the same height as the surround-left and surround-right speakers.

Instead of a single back speaker, 7.1 surround systems use a back-left and a back-right speaker. These, too, are typically mounted on the rear wall of your room. Position the back-left and back-right speakers so that each is approximately aligned with the left and right edges of your listening position. Place the back-left and back-right speakers no more than six feet behind the surround-left and surround-right speakers. If your speakers have rear-panel bass ports,or if the rear wall is too far behind your seating position, place the speakers on stands instead. Install the back-left and back-right speakers at the same height as the surround-left and surround-right speakers.

A subwoofer is the last component of a 5, 6, or 7.1 system. Because bass frequencies are nondirectional, you can place the subwoofer in various locations. You may get the best performance by installing the subwoofer in the front of the room, approximately six inches from the wall. If you want more bass, try placing the sub near a corner in the front of the room.

Connect your DVD player to your A/V receiver--digitally
To hear a movie's soundtrack in surround sound, you must first connect your DVD player to an A/V surround-sound receiver. You'll need to make what is called a multi-channel-compatible connection.

The easiest way to do this is to use a cable that carries a digital signal. There are two digital options: optical and coaxial.

An optical digital connection, also called TosLink, uses pulses of light to deliver a digital signal. According to some experts, one advantage of optical digital connections is that optical cables don't pick up noise, while lower-quality coaxial cables can. Many, but not all, DVD players have an optical output. Most A/V receivers have at least one and usually multiple optical inputs. Plug one end of the optical cable into the DVDs player's optical-out jack. Plug the other end into the receiver's optical input.

Finally, you need to tell your receiver to use the optical connection whenever you switch to the DVD input. This is called assigning the input. Information about this simple process can be found in your A/V receiver's manual.

A second option is a coaxial digital connection. This type of connection is also used for cable TV, but the connectors are different. This type of coaxial cable has an RCA connector. Coaxial cables are less expensive than optical ones. In fact, you can use any old RCA cable to make a coaxial digital connection, and you won't lose any audio quality.

Most, but not all, DVD players, have a coaxial output. Some have coaxial and optical outputs, so you get a choice. Audiophiles argue over which connection is better, but it's very hard to hear the difference. Most A/V receivers have at least one and usually multiple coaxial inputs. Plug one end of the coaxial cable into the DVD player's coaxial-out jack. Plug the other end into the receiver's coaxial input.

Finally, tell your receiver to use the coaxial connection whenever you switch to the DVD input. Again, your A/V receiver's manual will have instructions for assigning an input.

Installing aftermarket Kenwood stereo on 1991 Subaru Legacy. The subaru stock wiring does not have a red ignition wire. Can i simply connect the kenwood ignition wire to the Accessory +12v (Yellow/red)?...


Hi, according to my source, there should be an accessory wire that is blue with a yellow stripe. If your is yellow/red, that's fine. You actually should prefer an accessory wire to an ignition wire as there may be less static on the accessory wire. Just make sure the wire does not have power when the key is off. Don't use the illumination wires--they are not needed for the aftermarket head unit and should be taped off.

Bought a LG Blu ray DVD Home theater system last weekend and set up with LG lcd tv and has been working fine till today. We had the radio on and I turned the TV on and the two rear speakers do not work...

In a surround sound system, the correct way to listen to music is in stereo mode which will play out of your left and right channels and your subwoofer. When viewing a movie with surround sound, then you should use your rear speakers. The key element to remember is that rear speakers are only intended to play your sound effects, and will not play full range audio. Thats what your fronts and center are for. If you simply want to override this, than you will need to select the direct sound field on your receiver and than it will send full range audio to all speakers connected. Most likely, its not going to sound that good. If you dont know what each sound field does, here is a list and function of the most commonly used ones.
Stereo-Front Left and Right speakers including subwoofer
Dolby Digital or PLII Movie-these are the bost options for your surround sound
Direct-All speakers connected get full range signal

I do not know how to wire nenwood kdc-422 to a 94 buick century?


You should have a wire harness pigtail that comes with your kenwood.
you can also purchase a harness adapter plug/pigtail at most audio auto stereo shops to fit your car make and model.
Be sure to save the packaging because the plastic bag has the color/codes for the harness. This harness is designed to plug right into the factory plug inside the dash just like the stock radios do.
All you need to do is splice the kenwood cables to the adapter plug pigtail you purchase for your car.

Connecting an Altec Lansing ADA995 subwoofer system to a stereo


I have this exact Altec Lansing speaker system and I'm currently just using it with my Dell computer. But, I know you don't have to install these speakers to any high powered receiver for good sound quality. The subwoofer has two separate 200 watt RMS combined amplifiers built in for it's single knob controlled dual 6.5" bass drivers and 2-way magnetically shielded satellites, which are amplified together by any source that has an analog or digital volume control. The speakers act as a preamp receiver to any volume or frequency tone level controlled audio source. These input sources can also equalize the speakers receiving input signal for bass, treble or mid-range adjustments. You only need to obtain the proper adapter to hook up all the speakers to your desired component or device. Besides a computer, for example a TV with a variable audio out function or a mp3 player will work. The adapter that i am referring to is similar to what is included with certain 5.1 Logitech brand computer and multimedia speakers specifying gaming console and TV connecting. It has all three color coded 1/8" connector inputs on one end and RCA jack outputs on the other. This can be purchased more easily online then offline at stores such as Ebay for a fairly inexpensive price. However this adapter will not decode true 5.1 surround, but instead give a 5 channel stereo effect. I guess if one was looking for an inexpensive alternative solution to purchasing traditional high end home entertainment audio equipment, the ADA 995s are one of few computer speaker models in my book that can do a decent job.

If you go to anyplace that installs car stereos you can purchase an installation harness that will connect directly to your factory harness in your car. That way you would only need to wire your Kenwood harness to the instllation harness and that is just a matter of matching colors from the Kenwood harness to the installation harness. All you need to do after that is plug it in.

The wiring on the Kenwood harness is as follows:

yellow = constant 12 volts
red = ingnition (12 volts when key is turned on)
black = ground
white = front left speaker positive
white w/black stripe = front left speaker negative
grey = front right speaker positive
grey w/black stripe = front right speaker negative
green = rear left speaker positive
green w/black stripe = rear left speaker negative
purple = rear right speaker positive
purple w/blackk stripe = rear right speaker negative
blue = power antenna
blue w/white stripe = remote amp turn on
brown = phone
orange w/white stripe = illumination

you are in stereo mode which only uses the two front speakers, hit the surround sound button remote or hit the mode button and cycle through until you get to the Dolby II setting
