IT IS A SHARED MEMORY
You won't like the resolution if you remove the 8mb buffer in bios set-up, trust me.(it will make your display look like 16color windows 3.1 or worse) You could try it and it will get you back that 8 meg the other is shadow ram, don't mess with that either.
Your options in advanced video are 8mb and 1mb. My advice, leave it.

the specs is already good for browsing and some sort of document editing. however, if you wish to play games or do video editing, i suggest you get a good video card. 1gb video card will be good. Even if you have a good amount of ram but your video processing memory is shared, it will definitely slow your computer.

My hp pavilion a1140n has 4G RAM installed but only shows 3.11G my copmuter, properties. I've tried different orders of installation/configuration of cards and I get 2G, 3G, 3.11G. Anyone know why?

The system probably uses some of the ram for the onboard video/on board sound...also known as shared memory. If you go to the BIOS setup..you should be able to see what the total memory is and what shares this memory

Sir how much graphic memory can spport my p5nmx-mx mthr board with 3gb ram inbuilt graghic memory means how much graphic memory it will show when i will use 3 gb memory {available graphic memory}

the max you will see if you are running vista is 1244. shared memory is calculated as followed.
(total memory-512)/2= dedicated shared video memory. (3000mb-512=2488/2=1244mb dedicated shared memory.

I have a Dimension 5150 purchased in 2005 - it

Is it USB connnected to the PC? If so, check to see what the webcam requirements are in terms of USB 1.0 or 2.0 and compare that to what your PC has.

Next, how much memory does your PC have? Check for any requirements in the web cam literature.

Also check to see what requirements there may be for sound reproduction and whether or not your sound card is compatible.

Finally, check the specs on your PC and see how much video memory there is and especially if it's shared with the main PC processor. You may be able to install a separate video card that could help if it is shared, but for a 5 year old machine it may not be worth it.
