Question about Dell Inspiron B120 Notebook
I am trying to hook up a external monitor to my laptop. What happens is the picture is located to the left side and very low on the monitor. Only about 1/3 of the picture is seen. I cannot adjust the monitor enough to center the picture. I cannot find a fix in Windows XP. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
You didn't configured it properly.
First you need to clear the wrong settings: unhook the monitor and reboot. Now run a system cleaner like CCleaner. When this is done reboot again and go to Start / Control Panel / Display / Settings - in there you should see only one monitor, make sure that the correct resolution (1280 x 800) is selected.
Now shut down the laptop and connect the new monitor using the VGA cable. Start the laptop and go back to Settings - now you will see 2 monitors, the second one being the new one. Click on it and select the second greatest resolution your monitor can support (the native one if it's an LCD). Tick the Extend... option and click Apply, then Keep then OK. That is all
BTW if the wallpaper that you have set on the laptop isn't the same dimensions as the new monitor the image might look funny. Just to be sure the entire screen of the new monitor is used move the cursor around and you will see its real dimensions.
