It can enter only one way, unless of course you force it. Depending on the cable the arrow is usually on the face toward you.

My wd hardrive wont power on

look at power pack and look for the polarity diagram. get a multimeter and test the power that the pack is providing and make sure it is outputting what the pack says it is supposed to. if the pack is not at correct voltage, then this is most likely your problem. find another pack (MAKE SURE VOLTAGE AND POLARITY ARE SAME!!!! if voltage is correct but polarity is backwards, cut cord and swap wires before post to change it, or find another pack.) If the power pack checks out, then you need to open the WD case up and inside you will find a standard desktop 3.5" hard drive. most likely sata. remove from case and install it in a desktop computer and see if it will power and mount. if it will then the circuitry in the WD case is bad. If hard drive will not mount or show up then the hard drive is bad. If The WD case is the problem check circuitry for bad caps, transistors and voltage regulators. replace as needed. or just keep the hard drive in your pc as a permanent upgrade.

You operating system is probably corrupt. You will need to install a fresh copy of your operating system. This will erase all your files, but i guess your computer's health is more important.

Have taken hard drive from desktop want to know how to convert it to an external hard drive for laptop

You need to purchase an USB hard drive case and insert the hard drive into this USB case. You need to remove the jumper on the hard drive or set it to master drive. Power up the laptop then then power up the USB hard drive and then connect it to your laptop's USB port. The laptop will then detect this as a new device and will show up as an external storage device.

Please i need the power adapter rating for seagate

Have you got the original power adapter?
If so the voltage details are printed on the label on the bottom of the adapter.
If the external USB Seagate hard drive houses a 31/2" drive then it requires an power adapter that provides +12 volts and +5 volts both supplying approx 2000mA of current.
If the Seagate uses a 21/2" (laptop) hard drive then it only requires +5 volts power adapter.
The only problem is the power connector to the external drive, make sure it suits the external hard drive unit and the power pins are correctly wired for the Seagate. If the polarity of the plug is incorrect lt wired (ie reverse polarity) then it could damage the USB hard drive and adapter case.

My computer stopped recognizing my seagate

same thing happened with me, Looks like your pc usb slot is not providing enough power to the drive wither use a Y - USB cable (comes with three USB ends ; where in you will insert two USB cable ends to two usb ports on your pc and the other to ur hard disk) or buy a powered USB root hub.

Vantec Nexstar 3 HD not being recognized on comp

Hi, I had this same problem - blue light flashing and the drive not being recognised.

The problem was with the power cord, not the drive.

I solved the problem by unplugging the connection on the power cord between the outlet end and the power brick section, and re-plugging them after flipping one of the ends over.

The drive was now getting power correctly and spun up and was recognised as usual.

PC won't recognize external usb HDD

You may not have installed the HDD correctly in the case... I had the same problem with my Thecus N1050 enclosure, the green power light on the enclosure would come on and the drive would spin up but my PC would not see the HDD!!??... I thought, becuase i could hear the drive spinning that i had it installed correctly but this wasn't the case, when i removed the enclosure again and FIRMLY pushed the HDD into the connector (all the way in) and connected it back up to my PC, it recognised it instantly. Hope this helps!
