I have the same trouble with my NEW Jenn-Air down draft electic range. I have had someone out, but they could not find a problem. It clicks constantly, like it is trying to turn on. I am afraid it will start a fire!

I think I have the same problem. I have the same ticking noise
from the custom control switch, but the ticking comes and goes.
Most of the time it clicks on and off like a 'normal' burner, but at
times it clicks on and off very fast (every second) for 15 seconds or
so then goes away. Then a while later it does the same
thing. Is this considered 'normal' for this burner?? Help

PROBLEM MAY BE WITH ELETRONIC CUSTOM CONTROL. IT MAY BE CAUSED BY ELECTRICAL LINE NOISE. YOU CAN TRY A LINE SILENCER ON THE WIRES RUNNING TO SWITCHS' JONES PLUG. THERE IS ALSO A SOFTWARE UPDATE FOR THE NEWER CUSTOM CONTROLS. HOWEVER THE PART NUMBER FOR SWITCH STAYED THE SAME. I HAVE ORDERED THE SWITCH AND STILL HAD SAME PROBLEM. tRY THE LINE SILENCER. . . THE PART NUMBER I USE IS 12001500 MAYTAG NOISE SUPPRESSOR. IT WORKS IN SOME INSTANCES.

Kenmore gas range when no clicking when turning the oven on

Range: Gas burner won't spark or ignite A surface burner igniter switch and a spark module activate the spark electrode when a burner is turned to the "Lite" position on a gas range's cooktop. If the surface burner switch, spark module or wiring in that circuit fails, the spark electrode won't work, and as a result the gas burner won't light. If those components work but the electrode won't spark, the problem could be that the spark electrode is coated with spilled food of is bent or broken. In addition, the electrode won't spark or ignite the burner properly if the ceramic insulation sleeve below the tip of the electrode is cracked or broken. If the gas burner isn't lighting, these repairs may help.

Replace the spark igniter electrode

1396454293470.jpg The spark igniter electrode-also called the surface burner igniter-is an insulated electrode that provides an ignition spark to light a surface gas burner. It sparks and makes a ticking sound when the burner switch is turned to the Lite position. Replace the spark ignition electrode if it fails to spark or if the ceramic insulation sleeve is cracked or chipped. How to Replace a Spark Igniter Electrode in a Gas Range Find This Part

Replace the surface spark module

1377098014986.jpg The surface spark module is in the ignition circuit for the gas surface burners. When a surface burner control knob is turned to the "Lite" position, it provides voltage to the spark electrodes on the gas surface burners. If the surface spark module fails to provide the electrodes with voltage, then it should be replaced. Find This Part

Replace the spark igniter switch

1396454315355.jpg The igniter switch is an electrical switch on the stem of the gas surface burner control valve. This switch completes a circuit to the surface burner spark module, causing the burner igniters to spark when the burner switch is turned to the Lite position. Replace the burner igniter switch if the burners don't spark when you turn the burner control knob to the Lite position or if igniters spark constantly even when the burner knobs are in the Off position.

Gas Range Repair Burners Keep on Clicking

The clicking that normally just goes to start your burners is not stopping. They just keep on with the tick, tick, ticking….. What can go wrong that will make them keep on doing this?

ec17f13.jpg

There are a few possibilities for this problem. The first one is that the little switch that is behind the burner knob either went bad or got water in it. To isolate the switch that is the problem you can pull one of the wires off of behind the burner knobs one at a time till it stops. That one is the one that is bad.

2aed192.jpg

If you have just washed down the stove top then you may have water in it that is making it continue to click. Let everything dry out over night and see if that fixes it. A hair dryer can be used to speed up the process.

If you pull a wire from each switch and it still goes on, then the spark module is bad. You will need to replace it.

Be aware that it is normal for all the burners to spark whenever another one is being lit.

Excessive dirt and grease can cause the burners to light hard but will not cause the spark module to keep on sparking all the time. If a burner lights hard, check the tip of the spark electrode to make sure it is clean.

If your spark module has burnt out to rapidly, or needs to be constantly replaced, you may not have a properly wired and grounded receptacle. Reversed polarity or not being grounded can cause the spark module to fail prematurely. Make sure that you do not use a two pronged outlet or extension cord for your range.

If all else fails you can always unplug the range to get the sparking to stop. You can light the burners with a charcoal grill lighter or a match if you do it carefully. Turn the burner to full on and then slowly go towards the burner keeping the flame as low to the top as possible till the burner lights.

I was just cleaning my cooktop and now I'm getting a constant ticking noise. I turned all burners on, left them on a short time, turned them off and it's still making the fast ticking noise. Is...

what that clicking is , is the ignitor trying to light the burner, its electronic, and if it continues it will eventually burn out, more than likely what happened is that moisture from cleaning got into the knob and control for that specific burner, and needs to dry out before it burns out, , you can try turning that one burner on and off a few times o see if that shuts it down, if it doesn't,, unplug the unit, and wait until it dries out on its own

Gas burners are ticking

The ticking sound you hear is the electronic ignition which is located by each burner. When you turn a burner on the electronic ignition creates a spark which ignites the gas. Once the burner is ignited. turn the knob a bit further and the ticking will stop.

Timer buzzer

I took the top of range apart to see if I could unplug the buzzer. Wasn't sure which wire it was so I just unplugged the bottom four wires one at a time.....don't really know what it did but it stopped buzzing and all the wires are plugged back in. Only thing I can think of it must have re-set something cause it works fine now

When burner is turned on, the "ticking" noise never stops!!!

You got water/liquid in the control switch, most the time you have to replace the switch, and most cook tops require the whole string of them be changed at once. That is all the switches are tied into /pre wired together.
