I have a Carrier A/C with remote on my RV. It was recently installed to replace a bad unit. The remote will not bring on the furnance. The inside temp at 73 degrees and the heater function set for 80. When I depressed the emergency furnace button for 5 seconds, the heater came on. Why will the heater not respond to the remote?

I do not know the unit. However, I am willing to make a guess. It sounds as if this may be some kind of heat pump. If this is the case, than when you turn on the heat there will be a time delay to prevent compressor damage. Emergency heat skips the compressor and turns on electric heat strips. If my guess is right, you should be able to turn on the furnace and wait 5 minutes and it will start. I hope I am guessing right and you have no problem.

Replacing the remote control for rv ac/furnace with standard thermostat

You are aware that the ceiling assy (control box) will most likely need to be replaced as well, to work in conjunction with new thermostat. If you contact dometic ( www.dometicusa) and give them your model number off bottom of roof unit and what thermostat you are trying to install, they will advise what is required.

I have a Carrier RV Air V air conditioner. I turn

Have fan start capacitor checked/replaced by licensed tech, or electrician as they are very dangerous to work with if not experienced and can give a very high voltage shock, that could be fatal. They basically store and increase voltage to higher range for start up of fan and compressor.

I see no reason why not, once you have lower unit (control box) and wiring diagram. When you call that number, have your current model number ready of upper unit, and I'd ask for technical assistance. Good Luck.

I recommend going with a new one. Both the coleman and the carrier are excellent and a whole lot more efficient that the 16 year old dometic.
