Question about Amana Dryers

1 Answer

We have a Model #LGA9OAW Amana gas dryer that dries perfectly if we disconnect the dryer from the wall vent, but hardly dries at all if it's connected. (The dryer was here when we recently moved into this condo, so don't known if the problem has always existed.) Vent has been professionally cleaned, but that didn't help. Vent does have a 90 degree turn (maybe two) & has a total length of about 15 feet. If this dryer was working perfectly (& it may be) should it be able to push the moist air through the vent I've described. If so, what do you think my problem is? If not, do you make a dryer with a more powerful blower system?

Check the blower wheel for and the internal ducting of the dryer for lint build up then clean it. The motor is definitely weak and starting to fail if no evidence of lint build is found and the blower is in good shape. Replace the motor with the new available type which is part number 2200376.

Inside of the dryer all the way to the wall vent is completely free of lint. Motor seems to run exceptionally fast. Is there any other possible explanation?

The vent is clean and the motor is running exceptionally fast. These suggest that the vent duct must be the issue. Verify this by measuring the static pressure in the vent duct 2 feet away from the dryer. Maximum static pressure must be no higher than 1.5 cm of water column. Here's the Installation Guide for your reference.

jahn27, Thanks. You seem like a smart guy. Any idea how I can measure the static pressure in the vent duct?

You can devise your own manometer like what this smart guy did on his BBQ Grill to regulate the gas pressure. Refer to page 19 of the Installation Guide for the setup.

Gas dryer wont stay lit

I'm assuming it "starts" to heat but then cuts off. Usually after the first minute of running you can open dryer door and feel heat but after awhile it doesn't heat.

1st, most common problem on a gas dryer not heating is "airflow" . They will "short-cycle" if there isn't near perfect airflow. Turn dryer on and go to outside exhaust vent. It should blow about as hard as you can blow into your hand. If any doubt disconnect dryer vent line from wall and let blow into your laundry room for one cycle and see if it is now working correctly. If it does work correctly when vent line is disconnected at wall you KNOW there is blockage somewhere in your vent line.

2nd, most common problem are gas coils. Easy to replace. 99% of all gas coils are the same so here is the part# (WE04X10020) (write it down.

Dryer vent connect

Yes, you can use a flex hose, however, remember there must be as short a connection between the dryer and the wall as possible, and you for sure do not want a kink in the hose. The flex hose can be cut to fit with metal snips. ( There is a metal coil inside the plastic)
Many poeople do not know about free flowing air from the dryer to outside, and so wind up with dryers that will overheat and/or not dry their clothers.
Be blessed.

Long drying time

Check your exhaust vent in the wall. It may be plugged with lint debris causing long drying times. Best way to test it is to disconnect the vent from the wall and run a normal load to see if the dryer runs normally. If so, you will need to have a professional clean out your exhaust vent for proper operation.
Good luck

Maytag gas dryer won't heat up!!! It takes 6+ cycles to dry 1 load! What are the most common problems?

The main cause is a plugged exhaust vent in the wall. Try disconnecting the exhaust vent from the wall and run a normal load. If the load dries properly, then you will need to have the exhaust vent professionally cleaned.
Good luck

New Maytag gas dryer with long dry times

Double check that vent by finding where it exits your house. It should be blowing pretty hard, like a blow dryer. Guarantee you its a vent issue. Also check that when u push the dryer back against the wall your not crushing the vent. If you have a vent issue. Try sticking a leaf blower in the end that the dryer connects to. Quick fix unless you have a really long vent system. Hope that helps. Dave, www.washermd.com
