Hello,

So to clarify you are unable to power your printer off ? And you have tried changing the ink cart.?

The underlying cause would be a fault power button on your printer. One thing you can try is to uninstall all your printers software from your pc.

Reinstall the driver and software like you did when you first installed it.

If you have any questions or comments post back and I will assist you further.

thank you for choosing Fixya,
Daniel

Hi Judy

First thought normally pretty good indicator is ...I wonder if it is the black cartridge causing the error appearing on colour

and my second

Are both cartridges OEM? , ones that are not tend to say "for use in lexmark" but genuinne brandname expensive cartridges(carts) will show the Logo, some look alikes fool some and cause many issues with inkjets hence why it is the first thing us tecos check and the most common reason for problems in inkjets.. please ensure both are gen Original equipment manufactured(OEM) and also ensure you did take the tape off the contacts on the cartridge before you stuck it in, alright so...

Asumin we have 2 OEM carts and the error you are seeing is the ! and the colour balls only lit up on the printer and the other one with colour and a black light is off, then we can only have 2 issues, its the carts or the contacts, I take it that you changed the colour cart twice with OEM ones, so we can rule that out, so we have black cartridge or the contacts.

So I think we need to clean the gold contacts on both carts with a slightly damp lint free somethin and the corresponding contacts in the printer that they connect to when you insert them..

If that fails then I try a OEM black and if that fails or even before I would bother, I'd buy her a new one. I saw Epson selling remade whole inkjets with ink last week for 19 ozzy bucks, makes me wonder why we even bother fixing them as makers sell them for little just so you use their kinda ink so if it aint simple with inkjets they are write offs as expense to repair ismt ecomical, many brands dont even make parts for their range anymore if it brakes under warranty the just replace.

Most times problems like yours is caused by the carts not the printer, I get highly suss of any inkjet fault until I know new real supplies installed as it 99 % chance if any non gen inks are fitted it ends up being them darn things causin the issue.

I have seen dirty contacts, I have seen customer thinking they have real carts when in fact they dont, I have seen new OEM carts being old stock and the contacts are failing even thought they are new, they tend to get black spots on the gold contacts I think from enviroment or time. I have seen black faulty carts appearing as colour error lights, I have seen people reading the error wrong too, gezz I go to calls because they arnt plugin the darn thing in, but if your getting error lights we can rule that out;)

Sorry for the delay Judy, I been out the middle of nowhere fixing stuff and just got back, let me know if you need. Cheers

Steve

I only print black text but color cart. runs out on my officejet pro k5400

That's because your'e printer is set to use color cart. only.

Right click printer from "printers" under "control panel" and select properties. Now select device settings and you will be able to change setting of cartridges there.

good luck

Orange light flashing next to down arrow and printer won't print. just says that color not installed. i have changed print settings to black only and installed a new black cartridge

It will not print without a color cartridge installed, even if you only want black. It will need a color cart. as well, and it can't be empty. All of the printer companies are doing this now. Wish I had better news...

Printer cartridge missing

Make sure ur using the correct cartridge.....
for X2580 the cart number is 2 and 3

1.Cleaning the copper contacts on the carts as well as the copper contacts inside the cartridge carrier......

2. Remove the carts....and install the carts thru the solution center...(Start-programs-lexmark-solution center-maintenence -install carts
.......

Clean the ink nozzel using a wet paper towel.....do not whip it ..just press and hold the nozzel....do this 3 or 4 times....

then
Install the carts...
open solution center.....click maintence tab...click on "clean to fix horizontal streaks"...

Near empty black

Take ALL carts out of the machine. leave scanner open and unplug from POWER OUTLET.
Wait 5min.
Replug to power. Wait until machine demands carts.
Insert carts again.
Close cover AND ANSWER THE DISPLAY questions if you have changed the carts. Give answer by pressing 1 (Yes) or 2 (**). You should answer for the new cart of course with 1.

This will reset the ink counter.

No print capacity

do you have an error code on the display. plz give us some more details.

Some quick hints:
-Is the cart secured by help of the colored latches (you should hear a clicking sound).
- Do you use generic carts? might be a prob of air ventilation = drill a hole on top of the missing one.
-did you tell the printer that you have changed the cart by pressing 1 for yes?
-is another cart empty?

First, wouldn't print black, now won't print magenta- all new cartridges!

Unplug machinepowercord. Open printer and take all carts out. Plug in power. Machine demands carts. Put new one in: Replace with original ink carts!. When asked push 1 (yes New cart). If you have used thirdparty carts, there could be a prob due to construticon or ink quality. In case there is no bk after 3x cleaning cycles anymore, the head is clogged: This happens because the filter in front of the nozzels is clogged by pigmented ink. DO USE ONLY DYE INK for all types of brother inkjet machines!!!
