Press up on the control button (marked with a lightning bolt) repeatedly to cycle through the various flash modes. Your choices are auto (blank), forced on (lightning bolt), slows ynchro (lightning bolt and "SL"), and forced off (lightning bolt in a circle with a slash through it).
Don't forget to turn it back on when you're done.
