SOURCE: dvd and vcr recorder

Well LG makes this unless you can find a firmware up then you must order some DvD-RW with CPRM this allows you to copy your shows once then recording over them.I got this from LG.It's a common firmware problem that started when digital signals got sent with copy right protections.

SOURCE: Won't allow recording ESPN and other cable channels.

It sounds like the programs are copy protected. I've had the problem with an E 27 error, but I've had success with recording other programming.

This error e26 gets thrown up on some digital rights management programs.this really just means you are not allowed to record...ever increasingly thanks to the big corps like sony drm carrier signals are put into some broadcasts to overcome copying infringements.there still is a way to do this with the right equipment.some tv channels get revenue from their advert counts so they put these signals in to ensure that you can only watch at broadcast or catchup on certain devices.what I can't figure out is I can record anything whilst it's being aired and still transfer to older equipment but not anything with latest ios and certainly not with sony recorders.

Can a pacific pv619 vcr be programed to record freeview via a scart lead

It will as long as you can set the channel to the socket that the scart and source is connected. Allow extra time for the show you want to record and make certain the PDC (if it has one) is NOT set to on.

Hi, poog_23350, I caught your post! How a Duo DVR receiver works is that the TV you have it set to record on will not allow you to change the channel while the recording is in progress. The other TV, that isn't recording anything, can be used freely to flip through channels.

In this case, it's TV2, the one upstairs in your daughter's room, that's currently set to record on while the downstairs TV is free to use. This can be adjusted by pulling up the Main Menu with the Menu button on the remote, selecting option 8, then option 5, and changing the TV1/TV2 setting there on the Record Plus screen.

If you'd like a receiver capable of allowing channel changing while recording a program, our VIP 612 receiver is a Solo receiver that acts like a Duo. What this means is that it has one TV output and two tuners. Along with being able to change channels while a recording is in progress with this type of receiver, you can also record two programs on two different channels simultaneously.

Hope that helps!

I'm interested in possibly buying one of these units and would like to know if I can screw my cable directly to the unit and record tv programs right to a dvd or vhs tape

Unless there is a copyright infringment software block on the show or in the dvd recorder the answer is yes. There have been occasions when certain channels ar programs were not allowed to be copied but most are allowed. Talk to the salesperson who is selling you this unit and ask them if they are aware of any blocking software on the unit.

My vcr will only record the channel I am on. When I try to set programming for another channel it will not record unless I am on that particular channel.

The vcr will only record what it is given to record. If your TV is the recording source, it has to have dual tuners to allow recording of one channel and viewing of another, as does the vcr.
Hope that clarifies the situation.

Timed recording with cable (new)

If you're referring to programming your VCR for recording, that works just like it did before the cable box was installed, but with two major differences.

The first difference is that the VCR must always be programmed to record on the converter box output channel. Usually this is channel 3, but may also be channel 4. The cable box selects the channel from the cable system, but it's always outputting to your TV on the same channel. That channel is what the VCR needs to record from.

The second change to programmed recording is that you can't program your VCR to record programs on different channels. The reason is because, as mentioned above, the VCR is actually recording from the cable box which is always on the same output channel. Unless you are home to change the channel on the box, you're stuck. For example, if you want to record a show at 10PM on channel 8 and another at 11 on channel 26, those are the cable channel numbers. The box output is channel 3 (or 4) in both cases. The VCR can't switch the box for you. It's only going to record the program on the channel you selected before you left home. You also need to leave the cable box turned on, but the TV can be off. This is probably the thing most people find confusing about dealing with a cable box.

Now having said all that, some brands of cable box do include a timer feature of their own that allows you to program the box to switch channels. This feature is used in conjunction with timer recording on the VCR. You still always program the VCR to record on channel 3 (4), but now the box can be programmed as well to switch to the channel on the system you want to record. This allows you to get around the limitation described above. If your box offers this feature, it will be accessed through its setup menu using the remote control. Ask your cable company if this is available if it's not clear from the setup menus or instructions the installer left you with.
