SOURCE: I have a Leitz 8x20 binocular that neds new eye

Due to the fact that Leitz is now Leica, and has been for some time, parts are no longer available for these binoculars. You may find that there is a repair agent somewhere, such as Captain's Nautical Supplies in Seattle, that may have some old eyecups still in stock that may fit your binoculars. Worth a try as they are such nice binocs.

The eyecups are available for free for UK residents from Leica Camera UK Ltd. just e-mail spares@leica-camera.co.uk with the model, serial number, if you require black or green and the address that you need them sent to and they should be with you in a week.

The earliest models below are no longer available but all the rest are.
8x20 C - 40300 (1975-1982) .
10x22 C - 40301 (1975-1982).

I have a carl zeiss jena 8x30 serial # 124690 what year is it

You likely have a set built between 1919 and 1930. If you go to this site (
The history of the telescope the binocular ) and scroll down (or search) to areas with Zeiss Binoculars, there are a number of files that have the information on runs. In my case, I looked at the Spreadsheet attached to the Zeiss Binocular Models entry, which , between lines 150 and 168, notes that binocs with the Lena logo were made from 1904 to 1945, and that serial numbers above 1 million began in 1919 and above 1,550,000 began in 1930, putting your pair in there more or less in the middle.

Cheers!

Dear Sir,I would like to ask you to help me with determination of old Carl Zeiss Jena binocular 15x50. If you send me e-mail adress I can send you photos. I can not find similiar piece 15x50 in the Zeiss...

Carl Zeiss Jena is East German manufacture, that is why you don't find it in the Zeiss catalogue (it isn't Zeiss). It is also almost certainly post-war, as there was no East Germany before WW2.

Carl Zeiss Jena made inexpensive optical equipment for export to the West. The optical quality was fairly high, but not as good as the West German Zeiss, and the finish was less good.

Production date for the following Zeiss binocular

There are no recorded serial numbers for Zeiss binoculars made in West Germany or those made by Zeiss after the fall of the berlin wall. The newer numbers have been a mystery to collectors and so far no one has attempted to publish a list. I have newer models with lower serial numbers than older models in my collection.
