The problem is the pressure switch has failed or the hose is plugged up, has a hole in it. These are usually inexpensive and are very easy to replace. There is a video at http://appliancehelponline.com/toppressureswitchvideo.html this will walk you thru the inspection and replacement of this part. You can also enter your model # for diagrams and illustrations of your specific model. All parts come with installation instructions. Not all models are available.

It is possible that poor water flow may be the culprit. Most washers operate on a water level system. The water levels have to be reached before the next cycle begins . If the water flow is slow this can extend the run time. To remedy this shut water off to unit disconnect hoses at unit. There usually are screens inside each hose connection on washer gently remove these and clean them.reinstall in washer. Before reattaching hoses put the unattached ends in a pail and turn the water on to flush out the hoses. Then reattach them and see if this solves the problem. Hope this helps.

My Maytag Centennial Washer is a top loader. It washes fine, but will not spin out after the rinse cycle.

If the water flows though the inlet then the flow pressure should be good, if not the inlet valve is bad or there is dirt in the filter. Also check the flow at the inlet of the water line. Once the water comes into the system the WATER LEVEL SENSOR - normally a pressure switch- must activate at the preset/chosen level to give the signal to the program controller to switch on the motor. What is most important for the motor to start functioning is that the door switch must be ON when the door is shut or this will be an error for starting the motor for rinse and wash.

My washer fills up with water but does not adjetate the clothes on the wash or rinse cycle yet it drains the water out when I turn the knob to rinse and spins the load on the rinse cycle/

It is possible that the machine does not start off the cycle because there are errors due to feedback from the inputs. For the program to start up the main program controller must initiate the INLET/MOTOR/DRAIN pump/ valve to open up and allow each function to be driven starting from the flow of water into the drum as also the drain valve to open to exit the water at the point of the program cycle. If this does not happen then the voltage at the valve/motor/pump must be checked or the fault relates to no voltage from the controller. This means the controller is a suspect.

If the water flows then the flow should be good, if not the inlet valve is bad or there is dirt in the filter.

Make sure that a fault in any of the cycle will relate to the specified action, so check the command from the program module and then the executing device be it the valve or motor or pump.

My maytag mtw5600tq1 washer won't hold water. Its

Hi,
Its sounds like you have a siphon going on, this happens when the drain hose it too low during fill and as the water enters the unit it exits through the drain hose. To stop this the drain hose needs to be higher than the tub itself, meaning: raise the drain hose behind the washer to about control panel area. This will or should stop the siphon effect and allow the water to remain in the tub. If the drain hose is low this siphon will start again.
I hope this helps

The times seem to have changed on the settings for soil levels. For instance, the quick is 50 minutes and the normal is 84 minutes. That does not seem right. Is there any way to set them different?

Answer to your question "Is there any way to set them different?" Short answer is no. The Maytag Neptune like many other washers that display a time of cycle first start with an estimated time this relays a lot on the last cycle ran. But, more importantly it also takes into consideration other washing options. For example, lets say that your quick wash cycle used to only display 35 min. now if you select an extra rinse option the time will increase from that 35 min. to a higher amount of time. This is due to the longer time it takes to go through a second rinse cycle. The MAH5500 if I'm not mistaken also has a heater in it so there are options such as sanitize which takes 120 degree hot incoming water (suggested temp. for hot water heaters) and heats it to approx. 165 degrees. And as you can imagine this takes a washer some time to do this (increasing wash time). If you would like to lower washing time check the washing options and remove any that are not needed at that time; pay close attention to extra rinse cycles and the soil levels that are selected. Hope this helps. Cheers.

There does obviously need to be water in the drum to wash or rinse the clothes, however it may be the water level is now higher than normal , check for any blockages and check any drain pump filter. If all o.k. it may be the door seal is leaking .If under g/tee call maytag for repair

Washer continuously fills but drains at the same time during rinse cycle.

you have the drain pipe too low into tthe house drain pipe, raise the washers drain pipe up , you only need four inches down into the hous drain

also the house drain pipe needs to be as high as the lid of the machine before you put the washer drain tube into the house drain

you have a syphoning effect
