Question about Western Digital Caviar WD200BB 20 GB Hard Drive
i have wd200 hd. it was clicking with regular click click click so i figured i had a problem. i turned it off last night and rebooted this a.m. now i have click click....click click....etc like something is actually hitting on the inside. will not start boot sequence. i figure the drive is gone but can i change the arms and get it to work long enough to retreive the files?
any suggestions will be appreciated.
You can't change the internal parts, you'll lose all your files on the disk if you do so. This is called the 'click of death' and it means that your disk has physical problems with it (and it's not repairable, you'll have to get a new hard disk drive to replace it.) There are many short-term remedies that will allow you to try and get some if not all your files off it before it fails for good; take a look at Google for some advice.
If the information is very, very important then it's a good idea to call up a data recovery service; it's effective but can cost a significant amount of money.

a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
