I have no idea what Nelco model you are talking about. Many have a spool pin that are just tapped in from the top. If yours is not thenm maybe its missing. Or maybe broken off. If its a type that you just pull up to use then maybe you can grab it with a pliers and pull. But if you can't grab it then take the top cover off and tap it out. Add some oil to it.

I need help putting the bobbin threader back onto a Nelco JA38 sewing machine and the springs are giving me fits. Any help?

Not sure if you are having problems with the bobbin winder or threading the bobbin. This may help:

Nelco JA 38 Sewing Machine Threading Diagram

To avoid awful thread nests under the fabric, be sure to ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot when threading the top thread.

Interestingly, the bobbin threading instructions (above) show the bobbin loading into the bobbin case so it turns COUNTER-clockwise. This is the opposite of instructions for most machines. You can probably try both, the clockwise or Counter-clockwise,and see if one works better than the other.

Be sure to use fresh, good quality sewing machine oil or Tri-Flow Synthetic Oil on your machine. Open it up, while gently wiggling the handwheel, drop a couple drops of oil every place that metal rubs against metal. Avoid plastic or rubber parts! You may even find little round holes throughout that are oil ports. Be sure to get the area around the needlebar, presser foot lifter, feed dogs, the bobbin area, and all the dial and selector mechanisms.

You can find manuals for your machine online (not free!).

Threading a nelco 5102

Machines generally thread similarly. Just be sure to ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot when threading the top thread.

I have an XN1700 sewing machine and I can't get a straight stitch underneath no matter how I adjust the tension what am I doing wrong? I've checked the spool and top threading .

Not sure I understand your question, but be sure to ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot when threading the top thread. This allows the thread to seat completely in the tension disk. Then, you may need to tighten the upper tension so the top thread will pull the bobbin thread up higher in the fabric.

FWIW, there are some machines that just naturally do not have a perfectly straight stitch. I have an old Nelco that creates a slight zag in its stitch. But, the machine makes up for this deficiency in other ways!

Do you have experience with a Nelco Sierra 234F Serger? How is the quality of stitching, how easy is it to use and problem free is this machine? Are you still able to get parts for the machine?

As far as I am aware, Nelco hasn't been made for quite a few years--probably since sometime in the 1970's is my guess. I have an old Nelco sewing machine that is a tank of a machine and sews nearly anything I throw at it. But for finer work, I prefer my Bernina--probably because it has more stitch selections, sews a straighter stitch, and I know it better.

If you aren't able to have the machine demonstrated to you and you can test it to your satisfaction, I'd be reluctant (Actually, that goes for any used machine, not just Nelco!) The following may be helpful:

I have a Nelco model 217. No manual. Need to know how to thread.

This may be helpful even though not your model. Most machines of the same brand and similar models thread the same:

How to thread the Nelco A2?

With your Nelco, be sure that you install the needle properly. Frequently, Nelco machines take the needle with the flat side facing toward the throat of the machine--not toward the read like most other machines. The upper thread will thread through the needle's eye from the left toward the right. They also are a left needle position machine--meaning, the standard position of the needle when sewing straight stitch is at the left side of the presser foot, not center like most other machines.

Thread does not wound evenly on spool. Therefore when sewing it goes crazy with the thread on underside of fabric and then jams. What can I do to keep thread going on the spool evenly?

Your talking about the bobbin? If so your not threading it properly to feed the bobbin while winding. Sounds like you don't have the proper tension from proper threading.

Top thread keeps breaking, I've re-threaded to make sure it's right, wound and re-inserted a new bobbin, checked the needle to make sure it's not bent (as described in the manual) and put it back with flat...

Not sure if you noticed but if you thread a machine with the pressure foot down it will not thread correctly. There are two little things that sorta looks like symbols for the tension on most machines. (learned this when my viking 600e kept breaking thread and I put it in shop) If you thread the machine with the pressure foot down it closes the symbol things and the thread will break as you described. If you have completed that correctly check the spool of thread. You may have a burr on the thread spool that is catching the thread that too has happened to me.

How to thread bicor vx 1005 sewing machine?

Most older machines start the thread from the spool on a spool holder then the thread goes through a tension dial, on to another tension holder inside the case. Then make sure the thread is going through a lever that goes up and down with the needle, through a thread holder near the needle.
