Question about Kenmore 3.8 cu. ft. HE3 Front Load Washer

1 Answer

My washing machine is having trouble getting past the rinse cycle. I checked the hose made sure it was secure and clear of any debris hair etc. Then tried to resume draining but once it starts back up it will let out a little faint buzz and then just sits there flashing the 11 minutes remaining on the display. Occasionally when I try to clear it out and hit the drain button it will add a little water but then it stops and the tub unlocks. Once this occurs I have to unplug it to unlock the tub again. Now it is sitting with water in the tub and it won't drain. Help! : S

SOURCE: Kenmore Washing Machine Model 110.20862990

You don't open the rear panel. This is a typical symptom of a lid switch problem. The link below will explain how to access it. If you open and close the lid, you should hear a "clicking" sound as the lid switch is activated. If you do not hear the switch, check to make sure the lid strike in still intact. This is a small plastic piece mounted on the lid that pushes down on the switch through a slot on the wash tub opening on the right hand side. If this piece breaks off, it will give the same symptoms of a broken lid switch. Next, check the two mounting screws on the right side of the wash tub opening to make sure they are tight. These are the mounting screws for the lid switch. Sometimes they come loose and the switch does not make proper contact. If you attempt all these preliminaries, and the switch still does not seem to be working properly, replace it. A replacement can be found at searspartsdirect.com. Just type in your model number and the part will be located under the "Top and Cabinet" heading as item number 11 (Part number 3949238). There is a trap at the bottom of this machine you can get to it from the bottom.this is a very wet project if you take any hoses off there will be lots of water draining so be prepaired with a large towel or shopvac.check to see if anything other than the 2 white balls are in there, the white balls are sapose to be in there, sometimes a underwire gets in there and collects hair and lint.

SOURCE: Occasionally washer has sand in tub after rinse cycle

wow. are you on a well or city water? This means you have sand coming in from the line. and i am very suprised that your fill valve is still working usually when sand is comeing through the line it will either still the valve open causeing water to come in all the time even when turned off or it will block the solinoid and the water will just trickle in. I wouild take the hoses off the back of the unit get a five gallon bucket and turn the water on and see what is comeing out of the line. are you in a drought and on well water? maybe it is sucking the sand from the bottom of your well?

What is the problem why water does not drain after rinse cycle?

Hello friend, thanks for your post!

I understand that your Electrolux washer is not draining properly. Some possibilities for your washer not draining could be an issue with the drain pump or control panel. You should additionally check the drain hose to make sure there are no restrictions. If your washer continues to not drain properly you should seek assistance from a professional to repair the appliance. I hope this is helpful. -Matt

After working well for six months, my washer now expels water at random points during the wash and rinse cycles.

Check inside the fill hose for debris. There is a screen designed to block debris from getting inside the machine valve. If the screen builds up with debris the water slows down. Sounds like the water is filling too slow. Also the unit and/or the load may not be balanced causing it to stop and drain out. If it's okay then see what lights are blinking when these events occur and post here.

Hi there, it sounds like your drain pump is not working. Tip the washing machine back and look underneath. The drain pump has a little black fan on it. Disconnect the hose to see if there's anything stuck in the drain, like coins, hair clips etc. Clear out the pump and remember to reconnect the hose securely before trying out the washing machine.
Please remember to rate this solution, thanks.

Check your drain hose to make sure there is no kink. Make sure the hose dose not exceed the length of the hose that came with the unit. Check to be sure there is no other blockages in the drain line. If these are all clear you will have to check the pump at the base to make sure there is no obstruction limiting the efficiency, Debris such as toothpicks stir sticks coins etc.

What does eror 20 or E20 mean?

The error means Water is not draining fast enough from the machine. Try holding the Start/Pause and Cancel key together for 3 seconds. The Door Lock, Wash, Rinse and Final Spin LED’s should light. Any error codes should be displayed when pressing the Start/Pause and Cancel keys.
Make sure that the filter is clear of all debris and accumulated fluff etc and clean it if required to remove any residue. Refer to the following picture. Remove the bottom front panel. This can be done from the rear of the machine by unscrewing the 2 securing screws. The pump sits on the right side. Disconnect the hoses and clean them thoroughly. Make sure to clean the pump impeller out as well. Also check the main outlet hose that connects to the waste pipe and ensure it is free of all debris.

Suds in rinse water

I would check for a cold water supply problem since cold water is supposed to be what is used in the rinse cycle. If only hot water is being supplied it would explain the suds thing. I would take a look at the water inlet valve and would pay particular attention to the cold water side. Unplug the machine and remove the supply hoses. Check the small metal screens inside the openings on the water inlet valve and make sure they are clear of rust or debris. Next, check the solenoids using a multimeter or ohmmeter and test for continuity. A lack of continuity would indicate a faulty solenoid and the water inlet valve assy will need to be replaced. I will attach a photo for reference. Really sorry for your trouble and I hope this helped. Best wishes.

Remove the water supply hoses and check the small metal screens inside the openings on the valve. Make sure they are clear of rust or debris and that they permit water flow and are not clogged up. Next, check the solenoids using a multimeter or ohmmeter. Check for continuity. A lack of continuity will mean a bad solenoid and the assembly will need replaced. I'll attach a photo for reference. My machine will not switch to rinse cycle.

This could be a timer issue or a cold water supply issue, since cold water is what's used in the rinse cycle. You didn't say if the machine attempts to fill when it gets to the rinse cycle or not, but first check the water inlet valve (especially the cold water side). Remove the water supply hoses and check the small metal screens inside the openings on the valve. Make sure they are clear of rust or debris. Check the solenoids using a multimeter or ohmmeter. Check for continuity. A lack of continuity indicates a faulty solenoid. Sorry for your trouble and I hope this helped. Best wishes.
