Question about Toshiba REGZA 42WLG66 42 in. HD-Ready LCD Television
When i go to turn the tv on i get no picture but i do have sound. Do u think it could be the back light ???
Does the picture flickers show up few sec.than dies, than have sound left only.Yes,than the 1 or 2 long LCD inverter boards are dead.Tries websites like Shopjimmy.com,Ebay.com to buy those long 1 or 2 inverter boards for the replacement.

Yes, it can be shorted out backlight inverter board, or it is not getting the 24vdc from the power supply. Look at the screen in the darkened room will also tell you if the backlight is working or not.
If you are going to DIY and have proper tools, knowledge of electronics and know safety precaution then please read on:

I received no replies to my request. I guest I stumped 2 million techs. I'll just buy a new TV with a 5 yr warranty. No thanks to joining your service, I can do bad all by myself.

Yes, either a new back light, or a new inverter (the circuit inside the TV that powers the back light): http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120540641447&rvr_id=&crlp=1_263602_263622&UA=WVF%3F&GUID=a4a3861a1240a0aad0b022b0ffee21c3&itemid=120540641447&ff4=263602_263622
It looks like the parts for your TV are readily available online (unusual), but I couldn't find the backlight itself, sorry.

Samsung sent a tech to replace the failed capacitors on my 2-year-old 42". I had no warranty and they did it for free. It took the tech less than 20 mins and he had done lots of them. My suggestion is to get the serial and model number off the label on the back of the tv, noting the manufacture date at the same time, and call Samsung. It seems they heard the cry of the oppressed and owned up to their mistake of installing underpowered capacitors. You may get a freebie. I did not have to fight, threaten, or raise my voice, and there was no interminable number of hurdles to jump before I was speaking with a human being. I suggest you go to their website and get the contact info for your part of the world. By the way, initial contact with the repairman (after Samsung sent a fax to them itemizing the problem and authorizing the repair) was Thursday, and the fix was completed on the following Monday at lunch time.
