Huh? It just blinks??? What just blinks??? There are a bunch of lights on that puppy and most are able to, ummmm.... 'blink!' Plz; Plug it in, wait 47 seconds then note and report the status of each or its lights (including the labeled names) as follows: On- Off- or Blinking (Fast/ Slow/ Steady/ Erratic is helpful info to include as well..) Thanks, RAy

Hi

Configure the Router 1. Step 1
Open your web browser, type " http://192.168.1.1/ " into the address bar and hit "Enter."
2. Step 2
Use "Admin" as the username in the pop-up box and leave the password blank.
3. Step 3
Connect to the Internet and click on "Internet Setup."
4. Step 4
Select your connection type from the drop-down menu. Choose "DHCP" for cable modems or "PPPoE" for most DSL modems. If you are unsure of these options, check with your ISP.
5. Step 5
Set a service set identifier (SSID) to identify the router and change the password.
6. Step 6
Encrypt your wireless connection using a Wireless Encryption Protocol (WEP) key. Under the "Wireless Security" option, enter a passphrase and click "Generate." This will generate a password which will need to be used by any client connecting to your router.

Need to connect Linsys to motorola modem for wi fi usage

  1. simply unplug the router and the modem from their power source
  2. plug the power cable into the modem
  3. wait for the lights to stop coming on, until you see solid power and internet connectivity LED and an intermittently blinking activity light.
  4. now plug the power to the router and allow it to boot all the way up as well.
  5. no your internet should be workin. (the ethernet cable should go from the LAN port on the modem to the Internet port on the rear of the router, and any desktops should be connected beginning with the LAN 1 port and advancing as required)

My D-Link DI-524 will not reconize my IP address. What can I do? I reset the box and the lights continue to flash when they should have stop blinking.

remove all the cable conencted to your D-link except for the power cable of course ^_^ if the lights stops from blinking then possbile one or more of the ethernet ports on your router is malfunctioning try connecting the modem to your router by trying all the ethernet ports on the router until you see the lights stop from blinking if the lights stop blinking then that port is still usable on the router but in any case it also may be the routers settings you might need to set your router to the modems settings depending on your internet if it is DSL and you are using PPPOE there must be a user name and password that you need to input in the router for a calbe modem no need but since your situation is as we speak I do not think you have a cable modem for your internet, you might need to call your Internet service provider as well for further info for the user name and password the mdoem has unless you know how to get the user name and password from the modem ^_^ as far as I can go that's all

Cannot share my cable modem connection

You need to connect a router to the cable modem.  The router then gets an IP address from Comcast and provides a gateway between the computers connected to the router.
The modem expects to communicate with a single Ethernet device, and provides an IP address to the first device that provides a piece of data called a MAC address.  By placing a router in-between, the router gets the IP address that lets you communicate on the Internet.  It provides local IP addresses to the equipment connected to the local Ethernet and "routes" those to the Internet.  You can either hook your two devices into the router if it has enough ports, or hook you switch to the router and hook your PC and PS3 into the switch.

Internet connection problems

Sorry but that seems to be a pretty convoluted explanation. Here is how it should go.
Vonage unit connected to phone line(s) and cable modem. Linksys connected to Vonage box. Computers connected to Linksys.
Ethernet has a length limitation of about 300 feet before you need another switch (hub) or a repeater. Does your wire length exceed this?

If the Modem has an ethernet port (looks like a large phone plug like the ones on the router) connect an ethernet cable from it to the "internet/wan" port on the router. If it doesn't there isn't much you can do.

Connecting to internet

Ok, cable (coax) comes in from wall and attaches to modem. Ethernet cable goes from modem to WAN Port of router. You may have to reboot both devices to ensure that your modem (internet service provider) assigns IP address to your router. If PC is close enough, attach new ethernet cable from one of the 4 ports on your router down to your PC's ethernet adapter. (where your modem used to plug into). Router will now assign an IP address to your PC and you should be able to access the www.

Good Luck and let me know if you have any more questions.

Setting up the BEFVP41 Router with a Cable Modem and a Dynamic IP Address

Connecting the Router and the Modem 1. Connect the Broadband modem to the computer using an Ethernet cable without the router installed and make sure that the Internet connection is active. If it is not, contact your Internet Service Provider. 2. Shut down the computer, and unplug the power cables to both the router and the Broadband modem. 3. Disconnect the Ethernet cable from the computer and plug it into the Internet or WAN port of the router. 4. Take the Ethernet cable that came with the router (or any another available cable) and connect it to the computer. Then, take the other end of that same cable and connect it to Port 2 on the back of the router. 5. Plug in the Broadband modem's power cable and wait for all of its lights to stop blinking. 6. After the lights on the Broadband modem stop blinking, plug in the router's power cable. 7. Start up the computer. Obtaining the PC's MAC Address Windows 98SE/ME 1. Click on the Start menu, then click on the Run option. 2. When the ?Run? window opens, input winipcfg into the ?Open? field, then click on the OK button. 3. The ?IP Configuration? window should appear, select the Ethernet Adapter that the PC is using from the drop down list. 4. Make note of the ?Adapter Address? which is the MAC Address. Windows XP/2000 1. Click on the Start menu, then click on the Run option. 2. When the ?Run? window opens, input cmd into the ?Open? field, then click on the OK button. 3. When the ?MS DOS Prompt? appears, input ipconfig /all then click on the [Enter] key. 4. Make note of the ?Physical Address? of the Ethernet Adapter (normally ?Local Area Connection?). Accessing the Setup Page 1. Open a web browser such as Internet Explorer or Netscape. 2. When the browser window opens, go to the Address bar and type in the router's IP Address and click on the Go button (192.168.1.1 is the default IP address of Linksys Routers). 3. A window will appear prompting for a ?User Name? and a ?Password?. Leave the ?User Name? field blank, and type in the router's password and click on the OK button to login (admin is the default password). 4. The router's web-based ?Setup? utility should then load. Cloning the MAC Address The steps for configuring the MAC Address Cloning feature of a Linksys router vary depending on the firmware version the router is currently using. From the router?s ?Setup? page, locate the Linksys logo in the upper left-hand corner of the page. If not, skip to the next logo version. 1. From the ?Setup? page, click on the MAC Address Clone sub-tab. 2. In the ?MAC Clone? section, set the option to Enable. 3. Click on the Clone Your PC?s MAC button. Once this is done, the ?User Defined Entry? will show MAC Address of the Ethernet Adapter of the computer you are using. Verify this address with the ?Adapter Address? or ?Physical Address? observed in earlier steps. 4. Click on the Save Settings button. Then, click the Continue button if prompted. If the logo matches the image above ("Linksys"), follow these steps: 1. From the ?Setup? page, click on the Advanced tab. 2. When the ?Filters? page loads, click on the MAC Addr. Clone tab. 3. Plug in the Broadband modem?s power cable and wait for its lights to stop blinking. 6. Plug in the router's power cable once the modem?s lights stop blinking. 7. Finally, start up the computer and test the Internet connection.
