Audio prob Hi, I have a Dell inspiron 6400 and the voice is not working. The volume control is present as well as the drivers but it still won't make any sounds even the system sounds. I saw problem in my device manager concerning the audi device on high definition audio bus, but i could not fix it and I do not know if this is related to my audio problem.

NO SOUND ON MY DELL INSPIRON 6400 Laptop with IDT High Def Audio

Apart from the obvious things like making sure the volume isn't muted both in windows and physically on the system (if it has a hardware volume control) it is possible that the driver for your audio card may need to be updated. You should go to Control Panel and then Device Manager, click on audio and see if there is any yellow circles with exclamation marks in it. If so, this is an indication that you are missing the audio drivers for your sound card. To fix this, the first option and easiest will be to run microsoft update. When doing this, make sure you choose all updates, even optional ones, as this includes hardware updates. If this does not work, go to the dell website directly and punch in your service tag number to find the proper audio driver and install it on your system.

Good Luck,

No sound on my computer

Check first audio settings, ensure that the audio is not muted or volume is down.

If settings are ok, then you must reinstall the audio driver.

If the model is Inspiron 6400 you can download audio driver here, run the file after downoad has finished.

If your model is different, then locate the audio driver from Dell Drivers and Downloads.

Computer sound not working

ah, try the FN key and holding i down then quickly pressing the end key without releasing fn, then release them.
i have an inspiron laptop computer too just an older version so this might not work, if it doesnt go to control panel, sounds, audio and etc. then go to "Adjust System volume" or one of the other ones under "Sound" which are already up when you click onto that

External Mike not working

Try this:

Double click on the volume icon on the system bar (lower righ corner, asuming you are using windows), this will display the volume controls. Now, click on Otions -> Properties and select "Record", MAYBE you will need to change the Mixing Device in order to do this, click on accept or ok and the volume panel now contains the recording volume controls, check the silence mark ys not checked for the mic, adjust your volume settings if needed. Good Luck!.

To get the original volume config, just do the same selecting the play option.

No audio device

Hi

Assuming u are using windows OS.
U could goto device manager and check whether your sound drivers are installed under the Sound, Video and Game Controllers. If yes with no problems then goto Control Panel and check your sound playback buttons and see whether the volume control, wave control are up or muted. Also, check your manual whether u have correctly installed the sound driver.
