It was the ep play on my vhs that caused the humming sound, when I recorded another vhs sp it worked just fine.Bottom line, when your transferring from vhs to dvd-r make sure its sp instead of ep and that will work just fine.As far as rca model drc8335,or any other brand,I'm a baby boomer and what I grew up with was Zenith, rca, motorola, etc.but what I have found is this, that all the brands that I grew up with that my parents believed to be the very best USA MADE are now made in CHINA,and thats what we get as our legalacy for outsourcing.Shame on us and shame on the greedy corporations for that!!!shame on you and shame on us!!!!! for not boycotting these corp greedy people who sucked us into believing that they had our best interest in mind.I for one as a baby boomer will not in the future buy buy anything that IS NOT MADE IN THE GOOD OLE USA OF A!!!!.We AS PARENTS AND OF THE BABY BOOMER GENERATION SHOULD LET THE GOVERNMENT KNOW THAT WE A FORCE STILL TO BE RECKONED WITH!!!!WE ARE 70 MILLION STRONG AND WE ARE YOUR PARENTS NOW!!!!AND WE STILL HAVE A SAY IN THIS LAND OF OURS<WATCH OUT BUSH!!!!YOUR A MORON AND YOUR REPUBLICAN PARTY IS OUT !!!YOU WERE BORN WITH A SILVER SPOON IN YOUR MOUTH AND I HOPE YOU CHOKE ON IT!!!ther folks i finally got it off my chest<good luck to you all with your inferior products made in china!!!

Good one!

Sounds like you are doing everything right. Only things I can think of are:

- Make sure the disc is a blank one.
- Try a different disc.
- Make sure the tape you are trying to dub is not encoded with Macrovision copyguarding. If it is a home-made recording then you are OK, but a factory recording on a store bought tape may cause some difficulties.

If you are still having troubles try a complete 15 minute reset by unplugging from the power source.

Good luck!

It will copy VHS to DVD. Provided that it is a home movie and not a copywritten movie from the store.

Won't work with the same kind of discs i've used before

I not sure as to which type of Discs that you are refering to (ie DVD+R or DVD+RW). This player will only recognize 4x (max) DVD+RW and 8x (max) DVR+R discs. If the DVD+R Disc is 16x, the DVD recorder will not recognize it once you start to record. The player will read the blank Disc and give the impression that it will record on it. I have noticed that when a 16x speed Disc is in the Drive, The recordable hours for the disc seems to double. The normal 6 Hour recording length comes up as 12 Hours when you hit the info button. Since the 8x Speed (max) discs are not available any longer, I found it best to use the DVD+RW 4x Discs and make it compatible. I then copy the compatible DVD+RW disc to a 16X DVD+R disc using my computer DVD burner. The DVD+RW disc can then be erased so that it can be reused.

RCA 8295n dvd-vcr combo starts recording from VHS tape to disk and then stops.

Is the VHS tape a store bought movie or show?

MacroVision and other copy protection systems are put into store bought tapes and discs of movies and shows, and are read by your recording equipment. Once it reads this, it stops recording.

Does the screen turn red before it stops? This is one of the indications that MacroVision is stopping you.

Connect DVD recorder to Video player/recorder- transfer VHStodisc

hook the video output from vcr to dvd input at rear, then hook output from dvd to tv input. note; you can not record protected vcr movies you can only record tv shows from sattelite to vcr or dvd recorder. its best to record straight from sattelite to dvd recorder for picture clarity.
