I checked sharp electronics website and could not find your model number to download the manual to read what 'protect' means.

Have you tried looking for a fuse in the back panel that screws in?

In the demo mode does it play any sound?

Does current flow out of the speaker cables that lead to the speaker where the cross occurred.?

Maybe you should consider just buying a new DVD system or Blu-ray Player with speakers on it.

good luck on repairing this problem.

LMy JVC CD player reads PROTECT across the screen even after resetting the cd player it still reads PROTECT, I'm so lost now because I don't have amps or anything attached just regular car...

Try checking your speakers and speaker wires for shorts and/or grounds. Make sure none of your speaker wires have any bare spots. If your speakers and speaker wires are fine, you may have a bad internal output ic inside of the deck.

The display just reads "protect"

Protect is bad. It means the amplifier thinks it is overloaded. Check the speaker wires to make sure there are no loose connections or shorts.

I have sharp cd pc3500 stereo system when i turn the power on the message on the screen shows PROTECT. I cant do anything nor any function work

Make sure the speaker wires aren't shorted together and that they are not freyed or cracked...the unit is in protect due to it's internal circuitry sensing a shorted output condition...this is in place to protect the unit should the speaker wires become shorted together. You can remove the speaker wires entirely and then turn on the unit to see if it comes on...if so then I would look at each wire carefully to make sure they look good..of course if the unit comes on and the wires look good then you may have a bad speaker component...Now, if the unit stays in protect after you unplug the speakers, then the unit probably has a blown audio output stage inside the circuitry and will need to be serviced.

Says protect on screen

either too many speakers hooked up (bad ohm load) or internal flaw try unhooking speakers and cranking it up while playing if it stays on its the speaker wiring or even the speakers by themselves

My Sharp model no. CD-BA250 is displaying "protect". It will not turn off on or anything!! How do i clear it out to fix the problem.

Disconnect your speaker boxes. If the "protect" error goes, then the speakers or wires may be at fault. If the error remains, most likely the audio output IC is blown.

No volume

Protect is on because one of your speaker's or wires is shorted out. It comes on to protect the amp from frying, check ALL of your wiring and speakers for shorts to ground, NONE of the speaker wires should go to chassis ground only the stereos negative (-) speaker termina.l
Checking your speaker is easy, take a (D) cell battery and a couple of wires and connect the wires to the speaker, you should hear a click if the speaker is working properly. Good Luck

Email answer I got from Sharp:

I do apologize for the problems you are having with your audio unit. The protect mode
indicator will appear when the unit detects abnormal resistance in your speaker setup. I
recommend removing any additional speaker wire that may be added to the unit to extend the
factory speaker lengths. Also, make sure you have all the factory speakers attached, and all
non-factory speakers removed. Finally, please unplug you unit from he wall for 1 hour after
checking all of the above suggestions to completely reset your unit.
If you are still having issues after doing all of the steps mentioned above, the unit may need
to be evaluated by a Sharp Authorized repair center.

Won't start up

"Protect" error could mean one or both of the output IC's are defective. This can be caused if the speakers or the wiring have shorted. Try the unit without the speakers to see if it starts up.
