Hi,

Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended. If the camera is still under warranty, before trying any of these, please please first contact your camera's maker to see if they'll cover the repair, or to determine how much they'll charge for the repair. Who knows, you might get lucky. But if they quote you a number that's higher than the value of your camera, you may want to consider the following methods.

Place the camera flat on its back on a table, pointed at the ceiling. Press and hold the shutter button down, and at the same time press the power-on button. The idea is that the camera will try to auto focus while the lens is extending, hopefully seating the lens barrel guide pins in their slots. Blow compressed air in the gaps around the lens barrels with the idea of blowing out any sand or grit that may be in there jamming the lens. Other variations include blowing with a hair dryer in “no heat” setting, or sucking the gaps with a vacuum (careful with this one).

Thank you!

My kodak easy share cameras zoom lens is not retracting so the camera is not turning on

When a lens got stuck, by whatever reason, the camera shuts down to prevent further damage to the lens construction. If you can't move the lens at all. PLEASE DON'T APPLAY ANY FORCE TO THE LENS, just feel, try to find out what is holding the lens. If you can't see anything, the defect can be on the inside. This can't be changed easy. I don't believe in shock therapy, because you could help the lens to move once, but when something is wrong, it will happen again and the damage will add up.
But perhaps your camera is not turning on and that is why the lens does not move?
Did you try recharging the battery? And check if the battery has enough power?
Try that first.

My Easy Share C533 camera will not turn on. I just replaced the batteries.

make sure batteries are in the correct position, if the camera has a retractable lens make sure its not stuck in the out position if none of these are the cause then you may have to send it in if its under warranty if not then its most likely possible you have a dead camera

VERY COMMON WITH EASY SHARE. There are only a couple things you can really do. FIrst, try removing the memory card and try it. Than if that dosen't work. Try holding power button while gently wiggleing the zoom.

Kodak easy share z612 will not turn on to take a picture

When the battery dies, usually the camera will retract the lens if possible. If the battery is so dead the lens can not retract, I would recommend trying to charge or change the battery. Or try to turn the camera on, and then manually shutting it off if you can.

Lens will not retract

I had exactly the same problem and I went to this site and got my solution. I banged the bottom of the camera with my palm and turned it off and on at the same time. On about the fourth bang the lens retracted and cleared the error codes. I know, "Caveman Maintenence" but it worked. Can't hurt to try...
