Kenmore Series 80 washer. Agitates too slow

No matter the setting it agitates too slow and the clothes won't move from top to bottom.

Can you provide the exact Make, Model and Kenmore model number? .......... Kenmore model numbers use the format ###.######## with the first three digits of 110 for Whirlpool manufactured machines......... The model number on top load washers is usually found by lifting the lid and looking above the tub. The Fixya numbers are Stock Numbers. Since basic top load direct drive, top load electronic and front load washers are very different, the actual Model Numbers are necessary to correctly diagnose the problem. IF IT'S A BASIC TOP LOAD, DIRECT DRIVE IT SOUNDS LIKE A WORN, BROKEN MOTOR COUPLER BUT I'D HESITATE TO SUGGEST A SOLUTION WITHOUT KNOWING THE MODEL NUMBER SO I CAN PROVIDE DIAGRAMS AND DETAILED POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS.

The agitater is not solid and clothes catch under the arms on the bottom and tangle and have even ripped. What can be done about to stop this? It seems like a design flaw to me.

It is not the best of designs.

Sometimes, clothes will get stuck at the bottom when the agitator dogs are worn out. Check to see if the upper part of the agitator is working during the wash cycle. If it isn't, the clothes stay at the bottom and just move horizontally, not from the bottom to the top. The clothes then get stuck in the gap between the lower agitator vaens and the bottom of the agitator. This is a very easy repair, you need only a socket wrench set (SAE) with an extension.

http://www.repairclinic.com/PartDetail/Agitator-Repair-Kit/2744

You can also buy the dogs (pawls) by themselves in a pack of four for about $5.

When I first saw this agitator set-up, I asked myself, 'What were they thinking of?'.

Good luck.

It leaves soap on the clothes after it goes thru the cycle and I noticed that the top part of the agitator doesn't move hardly. The washers model # is LSR8233JQO and the serial # is CK4729250, Type 111.

The agitator dogs (part # 80040) that grip and turn the top agitator to push the clothes into the bottom agitator during the wash cycle are worn and must be replaced. It costs about $5 and replacing it is an easy task to do.

Disconnect the power to the washer. Open the lid and remove the agitator cap by prying it with a flat-bladed screwdriver off the agitator top. Remove the 7/16 inch stud and seal holding the agitator to the shaft using a socket wrench with extension.

Lift the agitator off the shaft and pull the top agitator off the bottom agitator. Remove the cam that holds the agitator dogs from the top agitator.

Lay the cam upside down and install the agitator dogs on the slots. Hold the cam with the newly installed agitator dogs on one hand and the top agitator upside down on the other. Slide the cam up into the top agitator and turn the assembly in the upright position.

Align the cam and bottom agitator tabs and cut-outs and place the top agitator with the cam over the bottom agitator. Place the agitator assembly on the shaft and rotate it until the grooves match. Push the agitator down and reinstall the stud and seal. Do not over tighten the stud or the agitator will not spin properly.

Agitator: bottom moves, top does not

If the bottom agitates and not the top, the problem is likely the 4 "agitator dogs" designed to allow the top agitator to turn only one way.

On the Sears parts site:

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/getModel!retrieve.pd?pop=true&modelNumber=110.26902691&pop=flush

replace the 110.26902691 with your model number (lift the lid and the model number should be printed on the cabinet) and look at the section on the Sears site for Agitator, basket and tub.

This is what they look like:

pd_26_110_80040?$pddetailsth$ #21 on diagram Dog, agitator (4) Number:3366877Substitution:80040 $9.25Remove the fabric softener unit, lift the top agitator cap (use a screwdriver) and you should see a plastic part in the center of the top agitator with a 1/2" square drive.

Remove the drive and lift off the top agitator. Turning it over you should see the 4 "dogs", replace these and the top agitator should turn in one direction only.

Replace the 1/2" drive, the cap and fabric softener unit and the top agitator should work.

Whirlpool washer does not agitate/wash but the spin cycle seems to work. I've found that the bottom section of the agitator blades are turning but the top section does not turn. I can also turn the top...

Hi,
The problem that your washing machine is not agitating, you will need to check certain things.
Please check the timer to see if it is in good working order or not. Next you will need to check the motor and the motor switch. On some of the newer washers the door switch also controls the motor.
If the motor starts running after the washer has filled to the selected level, but the agitator doesn’t move, you will need to check the following parts.

The agitator dogs. They are located inside of the agitator clothes mover. You will need to remove them and check to see if they are in need of been replace.
The clothes mover. This part is the top part of the dual action agitator. Its job is to move the clothes from the top of the spin drum to the bottom part of the agitator.
You will also have to check the inside of the clothes mover to make sure that the gear like cuts are not worn out.
However another problem could be a broken motor coupler.

Thank you for contacting Fixya.com

Kenmore 90 series agitation problem

suppose to not spin unitl the lid is closed( safety reasons) the reason for the "weak agitation " is a bad set of agitator dogs. by removing the center fabric softener cup, you can get to and unscrew the center shaft bolt7/16. after removing the bolt, the agitaor will remove and the agitator dogs canbe replaced. part number 80040.youll need to split the agitator top and bottom to insall them . they simply slide into place.

Top Agitator is not moving

This washer has a set of cheap plastic dogs that grab the inside wall of the upper agitator to move the clothes downward and help them get a better cleaning. The older style These dogs will wear out. To test whether or not these are bad just grab the agitator while in wash mode. The dogs should advance the top portion easily. If not then they are worn out. To replace them you must remove the agitator and sit it on the floor. Hold the base down with your feet and yank the top upwards. After seperating the 2 pieces you simply install the new dogs and line up the bottom with the top being careful not to break the little tabs on the bottom agitator that hold the top in place. The newer style you simply pop the cover of the agitator and use a 3/4 drive extention to unscrew the upper agitator. replace the dogs and put the top back on. Nothing could be easier.

NO,your transmission is probably ok!! Inside your top end of agitator are these 4 plastic parts called "dogs" they need to be replaced. To be 100% sure ,do this first,Fill upthe machine on small load and while its washing look to see if the bottom end of agitator is moving back and forth ,if it is replace the dogs.In some machines you have to change the upper part of agitator. If the agitator is not turning at the bottom than, remove the top of agitator cover so you can get a extended half inch socket in to it and pull the agitator up and check the transmission splines. If they are smooth and cannot grab the agitator than your trans, is bad.
