Question about Acer AL1916B 19" LCD Monitor

1 Answer

Acer AL1916 monitor powering off

Once in a while or often when I'm working on something, my lcd will just blank out & go to the Acer logo once or multiple times to the logo & then back to its normal state. It happens at any time & not because of any application. It gets bugging cause sometimes I'm doing something important & I'm not sure whether it will come back.

Now tell me all the issues or solutions you can think of & I'll narrow it down. I used to work as a computer tech. a while ago but this problem puzzles me. Thinking its an inverter board is not enough for me to rip it open unless someone can make sure of it.

Thanks in advance guys ......

Dual Monitors. #1 works fine. Plug inb #2 and #1 goes to sceeen saver and #2 stays blank.

Both monitors must be plugged in when the computer is started for the second monitor to be detected, and you must configure the second monitor once the computer has started
In windows XP: control panel -> display -> settings tab -> select second display -> check "extend my windows desktop onto this monitor" -> click apply
In windows vista/7: control panel -> adjust screen resolution -> select second display and then under "multiple displays" select "Extend desktop to this display"

Might be something wrong with your display settings. Between the Acer logo and Microsoft logo, try pressing F8 about twice per second. A menu appears. Use the arrow keys and choose the one with "VGA-mode" using the enter-key. Wait while the computer boots. Set a compatible display resolution for your display.

The screen problem sounds like a leaky capacitor or other failing component that once warmed up exhibits close enough to the correct values to correct the display problem (this usually progressively worsens with every boot of the laptop until no benefit occurs after warm up).

The beeping sound suggests a hardware error, and could be the keyboard. I have seen this on a Satellite and randomly pressing multiple keys on the keyboard momentarily stopped the beeping and allowed the unit to boot (yours seems to be getting past the error beeps on it's own though, suggesting another culprit). The problem could be bad RAM, so pulling one stick of RAM out at a time and starting the computer will eliminate or confirm the RAM as the problem. Other removable hardware such as the hard drive (you would have to install another hard drive to check this one), wireless card, PCMCIA card/device, USB removable hardware (mice, keyboards, wireless antennas, etc...), should be the first devices disconnected to eliminate as being the cause.

Sounds like a real problem child/laptop. Multiple simultaneous problems are always tougher to troubleshoot as they can compliment/effect each other, so look at the one that occurred first. Good luck!

Acer LCD Monitor only displays "acer" logo

You are correct, it could be a power surge that has caused it.

Try this..
Unplug the monitor from the wall.
Remove all the video connections at the monitor end.
Wait 10 minutes then plug the monitor back into the wall (do not connect the video leads)

Turn it on and see if it goes past the ACER logo now. If so, replace the video cables and try the computer.
If not, then one of these will apply and a tech will be required..
  1. The internal bios has been corrupted.
  2. The power supply inside the monitor may have issues preventing the video board from starting correctly. This could be as simple as a few failing capacitors.
Number 2 is the most likely cause with an Acer monitor though. Any local tech will be able to correct it fairly cheaply, but phone around for quotes..they can vary a lot.
