Magnavox ZV450MW8A can't record

I just bought the Magnavox ZV450MW8A, I have been trying to record a program and I keep getting the same message. This program is not recordable in +VR mode. E 45
I don't know what to do? I have been searching the manual and can't figure it out. Can someone help?

Yes I have the same problem and have been working with it for several days. Explanation of the E-45 code is found on page 43 of the owners manual. It indicates that the program you are attempting to record is "Copy Prohibited". I have been told that somehow the show you are about

to record is protected from reproduction to a DVD. However this same program can be copied to a VCR tape without any problem. Which means in short, I should have invested the additional money to purchase the machine which could copy a VCR tape to a DVD disc.

same prblem i called magnovox they said to use a single speed dvd-r either a 4x or 8x but no higher than 8x. the typical dvd-r is a veriable speed up to 16x i think. anyhow i just got this info, headed to walmart to get single speed dvd-r, we'll see.

Same with my Magnanox DVD recorder, so far appears restricted to the Encore/Starz channels on Cable, Comcast/Time Warner. Cable company and Magnavox said same thing, Encore is somehow copy prohibiting it to keep you from selling the movie for profit? Who does that with the old junk they have on those channels? Said nothing can be done about it.

I am having the same problem. I have purchased DVD-RW discs and DVD+R discs and neither works. Also, I contacted support services and they said my vcr tapes are copy protected. I replied, they are home movies I am trying to copy (and the copy protect tab is still in tact). They suggested I purchase a different type of DVD disc. Did you ever get this problem figured out? I purchased the more expensive DVD/VCR player as I thought it would be cheaper than paying $10/tape to pay someone to convert them for me.

I've tried DVD+RW -RW no luck, have used Verbetim disks and Magnavox/Funai Corp is no help. I emailed the TV program to see if they are adding some signal to their broadcast to active this they say no. They didn't know anyone short of movie channels that might be doing it. They were not sure even the movie channels were doing it. But why won't my VCR tape of tv channels NOT dub to RWs? They said I was trying to copy prohibited stuff. I said I could dub on another machine, they didn't seem too interested either way. Look at it like this, they got our money, we got a doorstop. I'm thinking of filing a complaint with Better Business Bureau.

Just set the channel to a non-premium channel (ABC, CBS, PBS, etc.) before starting the dubbing process.

This does not work on mine. It will pause mid-recording and refuse to record any more. I had it do that to me once 15 minutes into a TV show. Even worse, it refused to record an episode of the TV show on the WB (That's a broadcast channel)...even though I'd previously recorded episodes of the same show with no problems. At first it wouldn't let me record movie channels (e.g. HBO, Showtime, etc...) and the Disney Channel. More recently, I've had it refuse to record on Spike and WE. Interestingly, I can record reruns of a certain show off one channel, but not another. It almost seems to be randomly refusing to record.

Had same problem using Maxell DVD+R. Tried Sony DVD+R same problem tried Sony DVD-R records.

Now if I can just get it to Dub instead of record TV in when I want it to dub VHS-DVD. Followed instructions to the T and wasted discs.

Unplugging the unit for 1/2 hour with compatibility mode turned to off before unplugging, worked for me on a unit that had worked, then started giving VR mode errors on the same rw- disks that had worked before. Thanks Doneway.

If I remove the regular comcast boxes, and use only the new little digital box required for channels 1-99 plus a few others I can now record. It appears the comcast boxes somehow make all their channels look copy protected. Of course with these boxes I can not get channels like Fox soccer to tape games which is what I mainly want to tape.

Try unplugging it for one half hour. Before you plug it back in, on the remote, push and hold the stand-button for 30 seconds. Now plug it in and see if it will record. Also, be sure you have the "make compatible" option set for OFF. This worked briefly for me. Bought the same model and now am having the same trouble.

I just bought a Magnavox ZV450MW8A DVD/VCR Recorder. It has recording capabilities on both the DVD and VCR components but can you tell me if I can use it to record FROM the VCR directly onto the DVD? This...

Yes, you can, I have this unit and have actually copied a dvd to a vhs and then copied back to a dvd as I wanted a dvd copy to give a friend. The directions in the book are really quite simple. They tell you how to set the vhs to the spot where you want to start copying, etc.

I have not yet tried copying my family vhs tapes, but don't see a problem, just a big project. Good luck.

Magnavox dual model dvd/vcr model ZV450MW8A keeps showing error code 45 when trying to record from sat.

This is a problem with the satellite box it has copy protection for certain programs. The only way to find a solution for this problem is to call their technical help and see if they have a work around filter or release code. The error you are seeing is listed your owners manual as a copy protection error. This is on page 43 of the manual. There is no work around yet published on the internet. I hope this information helps you with your problem.

I don't have a solution unfortunately, but I also have this problem. I cannot, no matter what the manual says (which it doesn't) figure out how to select which channel I want to have recorded to dvd-r.
