Question about Weather King 10AJA3601AH Air Conditioner

1 Answer

Pipe keeps freezing over. I had it serviced and they put in 5 pounds of freon and stop leak and it worked for roughly 10 days and the pipe continues to refreeze.

Hi,
The leak is too large for the stop leak to seal it effectively. The hole needs to be found and fixed by brazing it shut. then recharge the system.

If my pipes freeze would difty filter cause it

Hello
Yes a dirty filter or a dirty coil can cause your pipes to freeze up.Dirt will stop the air from flowing through the coil.Causing it to freeze.

Replace your filter. Then clean out the coil.Simple green spray cleaner and water do a good job of getting rid of dirt on a/c coils.Turn unit off while cleaning.

If ice continues after filter and cleaning then you may be low on freon and have a leak.

My AC keeps freezing. Condenser pipes freezes all the time and the repair men just keeps adding freon. What is the problem?

Hello MCOMSTI You have a freon leak that MUST be found & repiared so the system will keep the charge.A fast leak is eaiser to find, look for a oil/grease stain anywhere on the system, when you loose 1/2 system charge you make ice.

I have a Ruud Achieve model UPKB 060 CAZ that has a line that keeps freezing up when the thermostat is set to go below 76 degrees. The freon was checked and some was added. Also, the air handler is in...

Normally when the suction line freezes which is the larger of the 2 lines, #1, its low on freon again and unit has a leak. They are sealed systems and they should never need freon only if they develop a leak. So, this we know. Also, if the air filter is dirty and plugged, and the evaporator coil at the air handler is dirty will cause icing of lines and coil. Not enough air flow across the coil due to a dirty filter. When you set your thermostat to go below 76 degrees, the unit will work harder to keep up to bring the temperature down and if you have a leak which you do, the suction line will ice up. A Ruud 060 is a 5 ton btu unit, good size. Who ever added freon should have done a leak check on it. I would recommend you calling them out as it is low again and do a complete leak check, add dye to the system or there are many ways to do this. If the leak is not found it will continue to ice up. By E.P.A. standards, they cant keep adding freon, they must find the leak. This is all about you can do, is check and make sure you have a return air filter and its clean, and if it continues to ice, have them find the leak, repair it, and re-charge it. I wish you the best.
Sincerely,
Shastalaker7

Call the better Business bureau if you are in the states. if they havent fixed your system thats a huge issue at this point and you have rights.
But back to your problem. The evaporator is normally the first thing to spring a leak. If you are leaking freon there would be the first place to check. Add dye to the system and top it off making sure to have the UV flashlight ready. If the evap is leaking the dye should end up under the car as the condensor drains will empty there. Also check hoses and fitting.
Next get a can of freon with stop leak, a big can and add freon with car running a/c on full blast and keep the pressure at 35 psi as it cycles and drops pressure add more freon. this will take 5-10 minutes to get the system full. When the car is full the low side will read high like about 75 psi which is normal.
Only 1 problem tho if your system has had a bad leak and open to the air, the dryer should be replaced before you put new freon into it. That dryer takes internal moisture and keeps it from freezing in the system.

2 month long issue...RUUD Achiever 1.5 Ton 10 Seer Heat Pump

Rather than have him replace the control board first, ask him to remove all the freon and weigh it. He then can reuse the Freon that came out of your system put back in at the exact charge that the rating plate calls for. He will add a bit more to compensate for any length of refrigerant lines from the outside unit to the inside unit. Now this will bring us to factory specs. If the unit continues to act up, then try another board. I am not a big fan of replacing parts unless other alternative ways have been tried. If he is not willing to try what you ask, why is he there? As far as if something is taking out the control board, have him clean and reconnect all ground connections and inspect the thermostat connections both on the inside unit and the outside unit. Is lightning a factor in your area?

I drive a 96 honda civic..it's been smelling like gas every time i drive it and seems to lose gas faster than normal. Would this be a possible gas leak? How much would this cost to fix approx.? I just...

hi, the problem is the gas could be leaking from several places the most common place is where the metal pipes come out of the tank and join to a rubber pipe this is the usual place of a leak.

But as you say you smell gas when you drive the car if you mean whilst driving the car you actually smell the gas inside the car then this indicates that the leak would be coming from under the bonnet as if it was leaking at the tank then you would only smell fumes when parked up or getting in and out the car.

Now as it looks like the leaks under the bonnet then the likely cause is going to be where the fuel pipe joins to the fuel injector rail as the engine vibrates and this pipe dont then this causes this pipe to split.

Now as for costs your looking at about an hours labor but as i live in the uk and hours labor here would be between 45 and anything up to 90 pound an hour depending on where you take the car (main dealers your looking at 100 pound to 150 pound per hour)
As for parts a piece of pipe would only be 5 pound or so so the actual pipe would not be expensive.

But you can never guarantee its going to be a strait forward job the leak may turn out to be a corroded metal fuel pipe from the tank this is not very likely but does happen from to time now this would cost between 25 to 35 pound for the pipe.

So you would have to work out the exchange rate to get rough figures but in uk i would say about 75 to 100 pound to do the work and get the car back to normal.

Let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok

Many thanks for using fixya.com

Beeping 3 times every 3 seconds

The 3 beeps indicates that the unit was in the freeze cycle for 60 minutes. Causes: 1.) Water valve leaking, allowing water to continually enter the system. 2.) Float switch stuck, sending false signal to board. This indicates ice not being produced. 3,.) Low freon level causing long freeze cycle. 4.) Hot gas valve leaking thru causing warmer than normal evap plates=low production. 5.) Expansion Valve not feeding freon properly to evap plates.
Items 1 and 2 are the most common. Number 3 possible due to freon leak in the system. Number 4 and 5 are usually a very rare occurance.
Hope this helps ya.

From where normally freon leak in central air condition system

Stuff frozen is usually where the leak is. It's under high pressure and when it leaks out the pressure drop causes the freeze.

Cost to fix is a guess depending on where it is. If the evaporator is what is leaking, you probably have to buy a new one and it'll be $1500-$2000. If an excessible line is leaking, it probably won't be all that much for them to solder it.

Good luck.

The contactor on the outside unit is sticking and must be replaced. The inside unit cycles off and the outside continues to run causing the refrigerant lines to freeze up.

Might be icy. First, fully defrost by either removing the rear panel and using a hair dryer (dangerous) or leave it off and open for two days. Check door gaskets and clean or repair. Clean condenser coils under the unit. Now, take off the back lower panel and find the compressor. Largest pipe is what we're interested in. Start unit. It will frost the pipe. After 5 minutes, frost should be replaced by ice, dry or wet...not frost. If still frosty, you need freon. Hard to know what the right price would be.

What else could it be? Thermostat, defrost timer. Try my stuff before going on.
