Can you move the spindle up and down with the handle? If you can't make sure the spindle lock is not on. Is the spindle clean and rust free , well lubed? Here is a link to a manual for your drill press: http://www.dewaltservicenet.com/Products/ProductManual.aspx?q=15-331 You can order parts here. Usually the return spring can be adjusted with a nut on the left side of press. Possilby the return spring could be broken.

I have an old Guardian Power drill press and I broke the handle. Does anyone know where I can find parts for it? Model #BDM58-5S

This site has parts for several brands of drill presses, so you may be able to match up the part that you need. The page I tagged is for reference . You'll have to search the site for a part that possibly works for you. Hope this helpful. There are other sites that have parts, but I did not find the Guardian.

Drill press chuck fix

The chuck on almost all drill presses is held on by friction only by use of the tapered fit you mention. Make sure both the spildle tip and the chuck hole surfaces are completely clean and dry. Set your table so when you move the spindle down it will contact the table. With the drill OFF, put the chuck on the spindle and press it down on with the table as hard as you can without bending any handles or gears. This should be sufficient to hold it in place.

I have an old Guardian Power floor model drill press and do not know how to change belt positions to change speed. help please.

See the picture below. The small red circle shows the locking screw on the right side of the drill. There is another locking screw on the left side of the drill. Loosen them both a half turn. The larger red oval is the handle to pull the motor closer to the spindle, thereby loosening the belt. Once loosened, it is easy to move the belt. Then use the handle to push the motor back, which tightens the belt. Keep pushing on that handle with your right hand while you tighten the locking screw on the left side of the drill with your left hand. Once you have that tight then tighten the right side locking screw.
Good luck! I hope this helps.

I have an old Guardian Power 3/4 HP 12 speed drill press. When the drill is on, I can hold the chuck with my hand. The Pully spins the but spindle is slipping...got any suggestions

sounds like either the pulley is not tight to the spindle or the spindle is broken in half either in a bearing race or between the two spindle bearings

The spindle with the chuck attached keeps falling out of my drill press. I can push the spindle (arbor shaft) up into the machine, but it later falls down. How do I fix this?

get something like brake clean and spray both parts the shaft and internal socket and then wipe with a paper towel. Next put the shaft into the socket and "tap" into place with a block of wood on the drill chuck with the jaws retracted. You might have to "tap" a little hard if you know what I mean but this will seat the tapers and you should not have a problem for a while.

Bent spindle in vintage drill press. Possibly Rockwell Press. 3 phase floor model

Remove spindle and take to a machine shop where they can use a dial indicator along with a press to straighten the shaft.

Chuck and shaft (spindle?) it was attached to fell off.

It sounds like it is a Morse Taper. If so what you need to do is clean bith the internal and external parts with something like brake clean to remove any oil or dirt. Then wipe both with a clean paper towel. Put a block of wood on the table or if you have enough room move the table out of the way. What you want to do is seat the spindle parts and you can either tap on the chuck (make sure threads are all the way retracted) or usse the feed handle to push and put pressure to lock parts together. If you have any more questions let me know.
