Question about Hifonics Brutus BXi 1206D Car Audio Amplifier

1 Answer

High Pitch Whine from Amp (not speaker)

I have a newly installed Brutus BXi 1206D and I'm hearing a really high pitched whine coming out of the amp. It is not from the speakers, as I've disconnected the sub to check this. The noise is coming from the amp itself. Any ideas?

Thanks...

    Thanks.
I can totally remove the RCA's and the amp still makes the noise. I removed the speaker leads and RCA's, and the internal ringing starts once the amp sees the remote turn on signal.

Make sure your rca andpower/remote wires are ran on seperate side of your car.it maybe recieving some kind of interference from the alternator. try buying higher shielded wiring too

hm it sounds like there is a current problem within the amp. i would possibly take it back and get another one or just get another one. or try on of your friends to see if the problem continues

i would check the speaker cables to see if something came disconnected first maybe wire i touching other terminal shorted out the channels output .

run a new set of rca cable to see if one use are bad . check to see if rca cables pluged into right output of radio . check to see if your remote wire is powering up the amp to turn on the amp ..

will still light up with battery power but will never put output to the speakers with out the remote turn from the radio ... how to check this is to disconnect the cable at the amp and take a short 18 gauge wire and strip both ends and touch the battery terminal at the amp terminal one end the other end where the remote wire is mounted on the amp if do this for a few seconds to see what happens or better yet buy a digital volt meter and check for 12volt a the remote wire when you turn on your radio

sounds like alternator whine, can be a hard thing to fix or something really simply. here are some things to try: check your ground at the battery first, make sure it's a good connection on the battery and the bolt it's grounded to on the car, make sure the battery connections are clean, positive and negative. make sure you have a "good" ground on your amp/amps and radio. you can also try grounding the radio and amp at the same location to avoid "ground loops" don't run a long ground from amp, but run a wire from the radio to the amp ground. hope it helps. dave

If you actuate the subwoofer by hand, do you hear any scraping sounds?

It's possible the voice-coil is rubbing and tripping the amplifiers protection.

Try the amp on a different sub.

RCA Whine, Newly Installed Amp

The shield ground is probably open in the head unit. You can check the shield ground by measuring the resistance from the shield of the RCA connector to the chassis of the head unit. It should be near 0 ohms. Disconnect all RCA cables from the head unit before testing.

If you find that the shield ground is indeed open, the following link has more information for a temporary fix.
