On & off problem

My camera all of a sudden started telling me to turn power off and on. I cannot do anything and the lens cannot retract
Acer
I have a Sony Cyber-Shot ASC-S40 Digital Camera.  When I turn it on a message comes up which says "turn the power off and on again."  I've done this plus followed the advice on this website which said to hold down the power button for 30 seconds then turn it on again.  I've done this several times and nothing has worked.  This camera was only a little over a year old when I started having this problem.

Hi,

try this out it worked for most of them who had a similar problem like urs:

Gently tap it twice at the end of the camera to ur plam and it will work again.

just tap it very lightly against the bottom of the camera holding it upright.

If you still face the problem then the only solution is to get it repaired or replaced if it is still under warranty..

Goodluck,

From the sound of it, you most likely have some sand or other foreign material stuck in the lens area causing it to not retract. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can open the camera up and see if you can find what may be causing this problem. Maybe a gear is out of line otherwise. If anything is trying to move, see why it can't. The pieces are so small that a experience person working on it would be best. Good luck on fixing this and please let me know if you need any further help with this

If you keep getting the problem it means that the lens may be stuck. Something is caught in the mechanism that releases the lens and it is
interpreting that blockage to think that there is a cover or something
else keeping it from operating properly. You can try pushing gently the lens to retract as you turn the camera on.
If it does not unlock then you need service

Lens error

There is a possibility that a bit of grit or debris has got stuck in the retraction mechanism or the lens has been knocked out of alignment.

The camera will have switches inside to tell it when the lens is retracted or extended and if it doesn't make contact within the expected time then it will give this error.

If the there is no warrantee or you dont mind voiding it then I would suggest carefully disassembling the camera and turning the retraction motor by hand to see where the problem is.

Please comment again if you discover anything.

Good luck

The lens won't retract and when you turn the camera on, it buzzes and then tells you there is a lens error.

You are gonna hate this... but when it happened to me... I placed the camera on the table - lens down.
I then powered it off and applied pressure to the camera (to get the lens to grab its drive gear inside).
It retracted and has worked fine ever since.....

Turn camera on, lens goes in and out then camera shuts off

You may try resetting the Camera to the original factory settings.
If the issue persists then service will be required.
