Press the [Zoom] function key and select [6:ZStandard]. The default window dimensions will be restored: to Xmin=-10, Xmax=10, Xscl=1. Ymin=-10, Ymax=10, Yscl=1, Xres=3, DeltaX=0.2127659574

And don't just type anything you want into Y=, make sure that it respects the syntax of the functions, and that you do not set Xmin larger than Xmax, and/or Ymin larger than Ymax.
If any of the dimensions is negative, use the (-) change sign key before the value.

The difference between Xmax and Xmin must be much larger than the DeltaX.

To check the good working order of your calculator always try with a linear function that passes through the origin (0,0). A good example is Y1=X or Y1=2X. If the graph works for these simple functions and does draw with your function then the problem is with your function and not the calculator.

Actually to enable us to offer competent advice you should always say what you were trying to do (the function to draw, the dimension you set). An all encompassing statement such as "No matter what I type" is not helpful at all. All that is left for us to do is guess.

"and does draw with your function" should read
and does NOT draw with your function

I was having the same problem. Whenever I hit the graph button after a linear function was entered in Y1 I would get a screen that said "ERR: INVALID DIM 1:Quit"

I messed with a lot of settings but ended up returning settings back to default. The thing that fixed the calculator's ability to graph was UN-highlighting the Plot1, Plot2, and Plot3 words. If they are white on black they are highlighted. If the letters black then they are UN-highlighted, to do this, move the cursor up to the highlighted Plot1 and hit "enter." Notice the difference? Now do the same to the others and see if it fixes your problem like it fixed mine.

    good luck.

For my ti-84 I try to graph & it says ERR:window range...but when i try to fix the range it won't allow there a good widow range to have for all graphing purposes?

There is no one good window range for all graphs, since graphs can have different areas of interest.

Press the ZOOM key, then select ZStandard. This will restore the window settings to the default range, which will at least allow the graph to be displayed. You can then change the window range and/or zoom as desired.

If this doesn't do it, please reply to this post, giving the function(s) you're trying to graph and your current window settings.

I have the TI-84 Plus calculator and when i try to graph anything, it says ERR: WINDOW RANGE. What do i do?

Press WINDOW (the second key on the row of function keys at the top of the keyboard) and check your settings. Alternatively, if you're plotting a function press ZOOM 6 to set the standard window range and if you're plotting data press ZOOM 9 to set the range to go with the data.

There's something wrong with your window limits, for example Xmax < Xmin or Ymax < Ymin. Press WINDOW to bring up the window editor and examine the values, making sure there are no inconsistencies.

If you don't see anything wrong, post a comment here listing all of the entries in the window editor.

ERR: Window Range

Press ZOOM and select Zoom standard (ZoomStd).
Alternatively, press the WINDOW key to access the window range setup
Set Xmin=-10
These are the standard dimensions of the window.
You can change the dimensions as long as Xmin is less then Xmax, and Ymin is less than Ymax. Do not make Xres close to Xmax-Xmin.
