No color

Does it have a video input? Does it have color when playing a vhs tape or dvd into the video input?

Does the set show the raster lines? Is there any snow showing on the raster?

If the set does not show color with an a/v input either then it is likely the main power supply section feeding the deflection system or the video processing is bad.

RCA sets more than a few years old are not good investments for repairs, unfortunately.

Let me know the answers to the questions above and I can give you a more precise suggestion.

No sound on my DVD. Using S connector or jacks. Swapped DVD player, checked the cable connections, went through the menus on both the player and the TV. Never was a problem before.

if you are connected the S video output of ur dvd to ur tvs s video input , the u should connect another two RCA cable fo audio.S video connection is only for video input. connect the audio out put of ur dvd to the corresponding S video audio input, using a stereo RCA chord.

I have audio and the set displays the channel number/ sound and menus. However it will not show the image that is playing on the tv

Your TV has video problems. Input any video signal, from dish or from DVD player or any other source, after setting the TV to video mode. If there is video, fault may be in the RF video output section, which could be detected through through checking. If DVD video also in not there, the problem is of video swiching [usually electronic changeover inside the TV]. Which can be rectified through a technician.

Our 32 panasonic tube tv has great picture, but no sound....any advice on doing a home repair on it?

The first thing to check is to make sure there are no speaker switches on the back of the TV that were accidentally turned off. Check in the on screen menus as well. Past that you most likely have a bad audio amplifier IC and if you don't feel comfortable soldering then I would suggest running audio from your cable/sattelitte box to an external amplifier for audio.

How do I remove the sub text

First figure out which device is causing the problem. It can be DVD2.gif, VCR, TV etc. Whichever device it is: access menu of that device, scroll down looking for CC, Caption, Closed Caption(or similar) if none of these exist go to audio or video menus and look there for same. Press select and change

RCA tv only in black and white?

The route through the circuits in the TV from the various sources all lead to the final video amplifiers for red green and blue. Somewhere along the route is a circuit called a colour switch. This allows colour if the signal is strong enough, otherwise it only allows black and white. This fault suggests a weak video chip which is the one just before the switch circuit. the fault could also be a faulty coupling capacitor to or from this chip, or a low power supply voltage. Check for dry soldered joints around this circiut. Please note if resoldering on new televisions that they may have non leaded solder which requires about 50 degrees centigrade hotter iron.

Lost audio & video

You say that you lost audio and video but the screen is blue. That indicates that the majority of the circuits are working OK. To display anything on the screen the high voltage and drive circuits would be working ok. Try an input other than cable (the tuner input) and see what happens. If your unit works through those inputs then you have a bad tuner or matrix IC. If that doesn't give you any results then you probably have a microprocessor issue. The bad news is that Apex does not support their equipment so if the problem is not simple it will probably not be reparable. Good luck.
