Spark Igniter not working

Hello,
I was wondering if any one has spark igniter problem issue. Not all the igniter are working. I usually have to use the lighter to ignite the gas.
If some one could advise:
is it a normal issue?
How can I fix it?

Find the spark igniter control box usually on the back inside a metal can take out of the can and check to see it spark is jumping between wires to the individual burners if not and just one burner is not lighting you probably have a cracked spark discharge point.. look at the offending burner and see if it is dirty or pushed down in or the porcelain is cracked. replace if cracked..

If spark module is jumping spark you need to make sure wires are insulated from each other and exchange places with the offending burner igniter to one that works to see where the problem exists. ...be careful to not get zapped while playing with the module!!!

I turn on the burner but get no igniter. I cleaned the igniter, but that didn't solve the problem,

When you turn on one gas valve, the igniter will spark at all of the stovetop burners. This is how they are designed. Do you see a spark on any of the other burners? Try turning on all of the other burners, one at a time and see if the sparker works for any of them. If not, you will need to have it serviced. If it's just an issue with the one burner, then the wire may have a short or the porcelain may be broken or cracked and it's sparking somewhere else along the wire.

Kenmore gas range when no clicking when turning the oven on

Get FREE Standard Shipping on orders of $100 or more. Details
Range: Gas burner won't spark or ignite A surface burner igniter switch and a spark module activate the spark electrode when a burner is turned to the "Lite" position on a gas range's cooktop. If the surface burner switch, spark module or wiring in that circuit fails, the spark electrode won't work, and as a result the gas burner won't light. If those components work but the electrode won't spark, the problem could be that the spark electrode is coated with spilled food of is bent or broken. In addition, the electrode won't spark or ignite the burner properly if the ceramic insulation sleeve below the tip of the electrode is cracked or broken. If the gas burner isn't lighting, these repairs may help.

Replace the spark igniter electrode

1396454293470.jpg The spark igniter electrode-also called the surface burner igniter-is an insulated electrode that provides an ignition spark to light a surface gas burner. It sparks and makes a ticking sound when the burner switch is turned to the Lite position. Replace the spark ignition electrode if it fails to spark or if the ceramic insulation sleeve is cracked or chipped. How to Replace a Spark Igniter Electrode in a Gas Range Find This Part

Replace the surface spark module

1377098014986.jpg The surface spark module is in the ignition circuit for the gas surface burners. When a surface burner control knob is turned to the "Lite" position, it provides voltage to the spark electrodes on the gas surface burners. If the surface spark module fails to provide the electrodes with voltage, then it should be replaced. Find This Part

Replace the spark igniter switch

1396454315355.jpg The igniter switch is an electrical switch on the stem of the gas surface burner control valve. This switch completes a circuit to the surface burner spark module, causing the burner igniters to spark when the burner switch is turned to the Lite position. Replace the burner igniter switch if the burners don't spark when you turn the burner control knob to the Lite position or if igniters spark constantly even when the burner knobs are in the Off position.

Burners will not light

Hello bdrillbit - Is the electronic igniter aligned properly? Ensure that tip of spark igniter is aligned with metal point or "nib" located on underside of burner cap after the burner mounting screws have been tightened. (Not all burners having mounting screws). When the burner control knob is set to the "LITE" position do the igniters spark? Can gas be heard or smelled coming from the burners when the control number is turned on? However, if you smell gas, I highly recommend turning the unit and the gas off if you can reach it and contact your gas provider. The range itself does not have a switch or regulator to relight it. Keep in mind that it may be experiencing an issue with the spark module, electrodes, wiring or EOC.

I have a maytag gemini gas stove three igniters work but won't light the burners. One igniter won't spark

Replace the "igniter switch assembly". The igniter's are getting a weak spark and since you have one that will not spark at all, this is the usual problem. Here is the assembly to order.

The part comes with a 365 day, any part, any reason return policy.

I havef a KitchenAid Gas Range Model KGSS907... and one of the ignitors on one of the burners is not sparking. I tried to take the stove top off to check the wire to the ignitor but don't see how to...

Hello,

Typically the burner come off by removing the burner caps and inside the burners are 2 screws that hold the burner base to the top..yes you could swap igniters on all burners they will be the same. If by swapping the igniters it still doesnt work the things that could be the problem are;

the spark module espically if the igniter that doesnt work on that burner suddendly work on a different burner

the spark switch on the gas valve for that burner..typically all burners spark when one it turned on but the only one that lights is one that has gas flow to it..so turning on a different burner first and leave it set to light setting by turning on the one that doesnt light it will light if that spark switch is the problem

of course a cracked igniter

a broken wire from the spark module to that igniter taht doesnt work..its not that uncommon that the insulation will sometimes wear off a wire off so the electric that should be going from the spark module to the igniter is instead being grounded by that wire touching the metal on the frame uninsulated

Good luck,i hope i have been able to help you fix your range,
GENE

Igniter won't stop

Normally you would find the switch that is stuck in the "ON" position by carefully removing one wire at a time, taking care not to get bit. LOLb2adc18.jpg

Looks like you might need Number 5.

Your model does not sell individual switches.

The burner control goes ''pop.''

Your igniter lead is shorted by some foreign object and needs to be cleaned before it kills the spark module.
This usually happens when you have a pot that boils over spilling liquids and solids on the igniter contacts.
Check the igniter area on the side that doesn't pop to locate the igniter tip, then find the exact match to it on the other side and clean it off with a toothbrush and alcohol.

Oven doesn't light. I have a Maytag MGR5750. The pre-heat light comes on but no ignition. Stove top burners work okay.

First thing to do is verify if the hot surface igniter or spark igniter is working. If the oven has a bottom broiler compartment then you can check from the bottom compartment. If it has a top broiler then you may need to remove the inner bottom cover inside the oven to look at the burner and igniter. Now turn on the oven and watch for the hot surface igniter to start to glow or the spark igniter to come on. If the igniter comes on then give the gas control valve(located at the bottom broiler/storage compartment) a tap with a wrench or a screwdriver. If the burner comes on then shut the oven back off and on several times COMPLETELY. If it works then you may have fixed the problem by dislodging debris in the valve. If it does not come back on then the gas control valve may be defective or the igniter could be weak. The igniter should be tested with a ohm meter and if it tests good(500-700 ohms usually) then the gas control valve will need to be replaced otherwise the igniter is bad. On spark ignition systems there is a different procedure. Another thing to check is the "runaway valve" that is located on the gas regulator for the range. It is a little lever located where the oven gas pipe comes off the regulator and cuts the gas to the burner when closed.

Tappan MGF500PBWH right side won't ignite

Helpful when people chime back in once a solution is achieved.

"bad igniter" above was incorrect terminology. "spark module" would be correct.

Problem was the 3 wires on the spark module. They all look the same, but must be seated correctly onto the proper connection. Failure to do so will result in the issue I first described. Seated all 3 correctly and now all burners (and oven) have spark.
