I had a same problem. It began this morning. When the battery out, I connected the AC adapter to an outlet. Then, it continued starting, down, starting, down, on and on....

I called the customer service and paid 49.99 for one time service in the hope to save my data saved there...their answer is only "reinstall"...

Please let me know if there is any way to save the data even though I reinstall Windows XP.
    Thanks in advance.

Only other time I have had this problem when I cloned my v5000 hd and I had a error on resizing the partition. I was moving it to a larger hd. It would do the same thing.

There are some data recovery applications so long as the install has not overwritten those sectors however they are not free.

http://www.windowsdatarecovery.com/ is ok but I have never used it after a reinstall only a bad partition becoming corrupted.

My HP Pavillion slimline won't get out of "start up repair"

Hi,

Re-boot, keep on tapping F8, enter in, choose
"last known good" there, leave to re-boot,

Or
re-boot, F8 again, safe mode this time,
System restore then once booted into safe mode.
restart it.

Regards.

My Compaq Presario V2000 will not start.

Ok, this makes sense. If this was a legit dvd, then it most likely had extra content on it (like wallpaper, sounds, etc) that installed something that crashed a driver.  If it wasn't legit, then the "player" that was used to play the movie installed something that crashed a driver.
If you can. I would reinstall some drivers to start.  Have you tried the "Last known good configuration" option?
Then if reinstalling drivers doesn't work, I would just restore the Windows OS.  But remember to BACKUP YOUR FILES.....once you restore it will be erased.
That compaq is a good machine unless you really want another PC this is fixable.

Hi!
Can you go in safe mode? The screen it is working?

In case you don't know how to go in safe mode:

Turn on the computer and after the boot screen press the F8 key.
Windows will ask which mode you like to go:

First try safe mode.

You can also try:
Last know good configuration
VGA mode.

I want to install xp on existing vista, also wanted to remove vista on hp dv2000 labtop

If Vista it is working well on Safe Mode, you have to check it out what is going wrong there instead of downgrade the system to XP.

Remember: Which was the last program that you've installed?

When was the last time that the system started normally?

You can try uninstalling the last programs

Also clean the computer and be sure that your pc is not virus or spyware infected.

Laptop compaq v2000

This is called the Blue Screen of Death (BSoD), as scary as the name sounds if your laptop isn't ancient you more than likely can save it. depending what you were doing on your pc last, installing a game or whatever, start it in 'safe mode'. it should start up just like a normal computer but with a few changes like anti virus disabled. From here you can unistall whatever you were last doing on the computer, clean it up and try get her running again, the usual stuff, try defrag the computer, right click the drive in my computer>tools>defrag now, theres also other options in there like clean up and error checking both will help. Try and save it yourself, if all this fails your computer fixing person will probly have to wipe your hard drive, in which you will loose all your data and start a fresh laptop.

It would also help to know what you last did on it, on the net? downloading stuff? installing something?

Dell compter shutting off

The problem is the NT user file on your computer has got corrupted. Since you have already tried restarting your computer a couple of times Last know good configuration feature of Xp would not work

Steps you can take :
When you power on the system and dee the Dell logo, tap on the F8 key slowly 5-8 times , you would see windows advanced options menu.
Select Safe mode and hit enter .
In case the system goes into safe mode , try doing a system restore .
Otherwise u need to repair windows through the disks that Dell might have sent you.

Windows XP fails to load and Computer will not start up.

Boot from startup floppy disks or CD-ROM, choose repair option during setup, and run Recovery Console. When you are logged on, you can run FIXMBR command to fix master boot record. This should solve your problem.
