The VCR works fine but I only get audio with the DVD

Hello,
  • Are you using an AV cord between your VCR and TV or a standard coax? If you are using a standard coax then first make sure the tape is functioning properly. Next try a new coax and if the problem persist there might be an issue with the coax output/input on the VCR or TV itself.

  • If you are using the AV inputs (red, white and yellow) you want to remember that the red and white are for audio and the yellow is for video. So in this case you want to
  1. Make sure the tape is functioning correct. Old tapes that have seen their better days will produce audio but no video and vice versa.
  2. Check the connection of your yellow AV input (audio). Make sure it goes from the same output on your VCR to the same input on your TV as the audio cords are running to.
  3. If this checks out then try a different audio cord and see if this fixes it.
  4. If not then try using a different output on the VCR and input on the TV all together.
  5. At this point it is possible one of the AV audio jacks are bad either on the VCR or on the TV.

Regards, Tony

Left front and left rear speakers do not work, they produce some sound but mostly static. The "phono" rca jacks also do not work.

Hello,
First off make sure that the cables you are using are functional. Also, check and verify the locations of the connections. You need an audio output from your source to an audio input at your receiver. If you run a video output from your source to an auido input on your receiver that will create strange sounds

I dont know how to hook up my rca receiver to my dvd player and my tv and vcr so i can have it all running i dont know what wires go where

first check your receiver if it has inputs for all those gadgets you wanted connected. in your input function selector see if there are options for your dvd, tv, vcr. if it does have all those inputs then just connect all the audio output left/right rca jacks of your gadgets to each input function of your receiver. your VCR though is different, you have to connect the receiver input to vcr output. the vcr record goes to the vcr input connections. your TV, if it has got any audio out then connect to the audio in function of your receiver.

Component 1 and 2 audio inputs function poorly or not at all

They get old and get dusty, and with people in the house, things get stuck in those holes that shouldn't be. Try cleaning it out with some dust spray.
