I was downloading some files onto my desktop. A few had been
completed downoaded, some were in the process. I accidently did
something and I got a message that said something like, "I didn't have
permission to get to files," and the flash drive disappeared off of the
desktop. I tried to get it back on both my Mac and a PC.
What happened, and how can I get my computers to read the
card so that I can pull download files?

I am sorry here that. And generally, voice reorder save files in the internal hard drive or the external memory card, so you can try to recover the voice files as a hard drive files, know more here Audio Recovery
Please be noted that your voice recorder memory should show as a drive letter in your explorer, if not, you need to take out your memory card and connect using a card reader, or plug-in to card reader slot if there's any on your computer.

First things first: DO NOT take any more videos or audio with the recorder that you want to recover files from in case you may quite possibly ruin your chances of voice memo file recovery.
Then connect your recorder to a PC with a recovery program installed. Photo Recovery Software (also recover Voice memos, audio and video files) is right what you need to use if you are running Windows. If you are Mac OS X users, turn to Data Recovery for Mac.
But you should remember - the more you use your recorder, the less likely you may be able to recover the deleted files back! So STOP using the device ASAP. Best regards!

You should see memory card shown as a drive letter (like H:) in My Computer. 3. Download recovery software, recommended one is this photo recovery (simply because i was using it and it worked) http://www.asoftech.com/adr/ 4. Install and open the data recovery program, select your memory drive, and click 'Next' button to start scanning process which will find your deleted files.
