If the monitor indicates "No Sync" Make sure your video cable is a high density DB15 end. If it is only 9 pins, you have a DB9 cable or connection. Also make sure the video you have it attached to is enabled and is also a high density DB15. (it will have 3 rows off pins. The DB9 will have 2 rows)

If those are okay it may be broken wire in the cable or on the monitor's DB15 connector/connection.

You should have a video plug on the side of your laptop. It might be a 9 pin plug or a 15 pin plug. You can attach an external monitor or LCD monitor to this plug. If the green line displays on the external monitor then your video circuit on your laptop is faulty. If the line is not present on external display then your laptop LCD display panel is defective.

Monitor not connecting to tower. it is plug in to the tower. but shows that it is not connected.

three things can be the issue here:

1. No signal from the tower (VIDEO CARD)
2. Bad cable or bent pin on the d-sub 9-15 pin vga connector.
3. Bad signal board inside the monitor itself.

Things to try:

1. another computer.
2. check the signal cable for bent pins.
3. check the video card in the tower.

Before you "think its a bad monitor" you always want to assume the computer first as computers are 9 times out of 10 why the monitor is not coming on such as BIOS errors, Bad video card, bad power supply etc etc.

Dell monitor doesn't fit my PC.

The cable you're referring to is called a DVI cable and aye, there are adapters. The DVI plug was designed to be universal in that aspect. You should be able to find a DVI-VGA adapter at Radio Shack or an electronics store for a reasonable price.
To clarify, refer to the following: DVI VGA

My apple mini mac (no intel) hook up mag monitor 780

The Mac Mini has an adapter plug, DVI to VGA.
If you use the adapter and a VGA cable to the monitor there is not a noticeable difference.

Just be sure to know the resolution maximums of the MAG monitor before you think its the Mac.

Monitor comes on but wont show picture

You should make sure the cable is plugged into the video port on the back of the tower. Also, if you have more than one video card, ie an "onboard card" and another card that was added later, try alternating one to the other and see if the other one works. You can identify video ports by finding the blue pentagonal plug. It also will be the only plug that your monitor cable fits into (that is describing a VGA cable, a white cable is a DVI cable and is even easier to identify.) You might also want to make sure the video card wasnt jostled out of place. The final solution could be you have developed some bad memory modules, or the memory was jostled out of its slot during the move.

No 9 pin video socket

Most video cards use a 15 pin VGA connector.

There is also a 9 pin VGA connector, but they are a lot less common - I'm guessing this is what you have.

Is the video cable hard-wired into your monitor or is it connected via a plug? If it's a plug, is that a 15 or 9 pin? If it's a 15 pin, then all you need to do is buy a new 15-15pin VGA cable.

If it's hard-wired, you'll need to buy some sort of adapter. These are available and don't cost much either, but you might need to try a more specialist computer store to find one.

Hope this helps!
