Yes, if all else fails, 'restore' the computer to an earlier date, or
'recover' the computer to the original factory settings.

This can be found in the 'help' menu by typing in 'recovery' into the help input line.

You have to be an administrator to do this.

Recovery also contains two advanced recovery methods that you can use if Windows is badly damaged or otherwise unusable. The first method replaces everything on your computer, including Windows and all of your personal files, with a backup or a recovery image. The second method reinstalls Windows in its entirety. Either method might delete any programs that you have installed.
Warnings

  • These advanced options can help resolve software-based problems by returning your computer to an earlier state, but because they can delete personal files and programs, it's best to try them only if nothing else has fixed the problem. Before using the advanced options, you should first read Choosing an advanced recovery method.
  • If you choose one of these advanced methods, you’ll have the opportunity to back up your personal files to another location, such as an external hard drive, before continuing. After the recovery is complete, you’ll then need to reinstall your programs and restore your personal files from the backup. For more information, see Back up your files

thanks duane , if it gets to that point i will restore to factory settings. but is there a setting that i may have missed when i tried to download from the net( avg, tune up utilities, malwarebytes, spybot). i uninstalled all the old security except windows defender and its firewall was disabled and still, i got the little boxes asking to run or save. i have tried both on all these programs. and still the same result it gets done and zilch....no program file anywhere not aa blink bell or whistle

it wont even download ie8.it goes through the motions and at the end nada .....i end up straight back at the website i got the download from like i just got there.

i looked in the usual places for the downloaded files and they aren't there

there is another program on the computer already "doc shredder", could thaat have something to do with it?

I would recommend that you go into 'recovery' and as soon as you get all your updates, then make sure your virus protection software is installed and try to go from there.

It's probably time consuming but not as time consuming as running the computer with software on it that is messing up your downloads.

    Good luck on this.

Try downloading to the "downloads" folder; (i.e., "save to") C:\Users\your username here\Downloads
Why are you downloading files to a temporary Application data/local folder anyways? This is a "junction", and not a real folder so try first saving those downloaded files to a different location like your documents folder or better yet to your desktop.
If all else fails do a system recovery using a recovery disc if you have or a operating system installation disc.

Do clear all your browser settings like delete browsing history cookies and temp files and others then try to download again.

Let me also add, what web browser are you using? if you have there Internet explorer and firefox try to download from both of them and check if they have the same problem.

How to fix error code 646 microsoft windows vista home premium software

* The solution, in a nutshell, is to disable your firewall. If you’re using McAfee Personal Firewall Plus, F-Secure Internet Security, Norton Internet Security or another Firewall vendor, see its respective support page for assistance in disabling it (temporarily). If you’re using the built-in Vista Firewall, keep reading.

* Open the Control Panel and select Security.

* Select Turn Windows Firewall on or off.

* Select Off (not recommended), click Apply and then OK.

* Back at the Windows Update screen, click the Try again button.

* The download(s) and installation should start…

* and this time successfully install. If a restart is required, make sure to re-enable your Firewall once your PC restarts.

* Though this solution will work for most Vista Update errors

Vista- Windows Installer problems

Well I saw your problem yesterday and its been bugging me ever since because I knew there had to be a way to stop it. It just came to me a few minutes ago, as I was having the same problem with Windows Installer a while back. These instructions may differ a little because they are far XP but it all goes to the same place.
Click on start>control panel>Administrative tools>Computer Management>Services and Applications>Services. Sroll down under Services and Applications and you will see Windows Installer. Right click on it>properties then click disable. So now it'll only come up when you need it..Good luck, let me know how it goes.

How to install the textwist?

Right click on the game icon, select properties and select the compatibility tab. From there check the "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" box and select Windows XP (Service Pack 2). It might be good to also check "Disable visual themes" and "Disable desktop composition" Hope it helps.

Cant download nero 7 to windows vista home premium

Maybe Nero 7 isn't compatible with Vista? Have you tried downloading other trial programs or any file from the Internet? If nero 7 is the only program you can download, try other versions e.g Nero 8 or later versions?
