Question about Briggs & Stratton Briggs Stratton Intek V - Twin Vertical Ohv Engine with Electric Start 22 Hp, 1" X 3 5/32" Shaft, ModelNo. 44K777 - 0027 - E1
Just got a used mower that wouldn't run with a B&S Quattro 4 HP engine. Model number is 10A902 type 2273 E1. I replaced the manual primer with part number 694395 which said for a Quantum(not Quattro). The store did not carry primer specified for the Quattro 694394. Also replaced the carburator gasket, diaphram, carb screen and carb spring which came in B&S carb kit # 5083D for Quattro engines. Flushed old gas from tank and put in new fuel. Cleaned carb with spray carb cleaner while I had it off to replace diaphram and gasket.
Although it now starts on just one pull after pumping the primer bulb, the engine speed is racing and moving the manual throttle at the carb does not change the speed. What am I missing or forgetting here? I am not a pro at doing this, so if you can give ideas in simple terms I would appreciate any help.

This sounds like an airleak between the carb and the engine acting like the throttle is open.. Try and take some carb cleaner and spray it where the manifold bolts to the engine if you hear the engine bog or lower the rpm's then replace your manifold gasket should fix this problem

Check your rockers inside valve covers. They some time work loose. If they are loose the push rod will fall off rocker and cause the problem.

The main suction jet in your carb. is blocked.Remove the bowl and push a thin needle up the centre jet in the carb and blow the jet out with compressed air. Stephen.

On each side of the primer 'casing', there are apatures in the outer. Squeeze these inwards, and the retaining ring and primer rubber can be pulled out.

Look at the outside of the plastic housing where the primer bulb is inserted, you will see an open area where there are 2 tabs, one on each side, using a small screwdriver, push these tabs inward to release them and slide the whole thing out of the hole including the primer bulb. The new primer bulb normally comes with a new mounting ring if you purchase it from a lawnmower dealer
