If the unit is doing fine, was he there for a seasonal check? If the capacitor is failing more than 10% the visual thing you would see happen is the outdoor fan motor turning slow or not turning. You would
hear a humming noise from the outdoor fan and or compressor.
More than likely the unit just needs to be washed out, then it would not
be operating so hot that could cause these problems.
In Iowa I could buy the capacitor for around $50.00 or less and ship it to
you. If I lived in Arizona I could still buy it and install it for under $100.00.
Shut the outdoor unit off, remove the electrical panel and you should
see the capacitors or capacitor. You may have to remove the band that
holds it to the unit. Write down the information and go online and you will see how cheap it is.
fbwetzel, thanks for your input, also -- I didn't see where I could post thanks until tryune posted.
Well I hope I did not offend you, not many people are comfortable with electricity and most people are even more afraid to reveal that they might be taking advantage of. I try to keep any
technical information to a minimum.
What makes me upset is someone posted the same information I posted earlier. When I see that happening it makes me not want to even help people anymore. He took my information
and made it more than what it is. He even went as far to say that for $20.00 you can have your
problem solved.
You already stated that the unit was running fine, why do you need to purchase a part that you
may not need. Just setting the record straight

This is why I have been pushing for technicians to be certified and the general fix-alls keep away.
You can buy a run capacitor directly from grainger.com search for run capacitor. All you need is the Mfd number as well as other info from your capacitor. Chances are you'll spend $20.00 (shipping included) and your problem is fixed average price for one ranges from $5.00 - $30.00 but I just purchased some for a similar Ruud model and spent $5.00. If you want to pay someone $ to take out a few screws and unplug 2 wires because you're not handy then do so but my guess is you wouldn't have found this site if you didn't have some common sence.lol
tryune, thanks for your input, also. common sense to detect that I was being scammed does not translate into knowing what I'm doing with electricity, however! When it comes to electricity, I know only enough to hire somebody I can trust. Obviously, this pre-paid maintenance plan that I inherited is not somebody I can trust.
I responded to what was asked in the post. bpwjunk asked Is this a reasonable price?
I gave facts and a link to verify what I said.
