Look at your memory card. SD and SDHC cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.
Hello. your SD card has a tiny switch on the card itself which locks the card in one position and unlocks it in the other. The purpose of the lock is to prevent anyone from formating it and losing it's contents. Check your card and I believe you will find that the card slid into the lock position because it was never firmly put in unlock.

if we are talking about an SD card ...see that in a side ..the card has a slide like button with 2 positions ...locked and unlocked... just unlock it cause it might have been locked when handling it...
To remove the write protect lock, take the memory card out
of the camera, face the card towards you, look for a small white tab on
the left hand side of the card, to unlock it push the tab up to unlock it, it will
be at the side of the card like this .
If the lock is in the off position then the card maybe faulty.
Your camera is telling you the lock switch on the card is locked.
Take the card out of your camera and look on the side. There will be a little switch. One side of the switch says locked and the other side says unlocked. Move the switch from the locked position to the unlocked position and it will work for you.
Little sliding switch on the side of the SD memory card. Remove from camera, slide switch away from lock position, re-install and you should be good to go.
