I found the element part number. However, before I order it, I was wondering if I should cosider replacing any other parts along with the element (such as the thermal fuse)? I'm a novice at this, but I'm pretty handy. So far, I've repaired my refrigerator and oven in the past. I really appreciate the advise. Also, I have not been able to locate the service manual online. Any advise for where I could find this would be appreciated.

The repair manual you are looking for is not available online but you my call Whirlpool at 866-698-2538 and order a repair manual for the Whirlpool counterpart of your dryer. Whirlpool manufactures appliances for Kenmore and that includes your dryer. The repair manuals for appliances made by Whirlpool for Kenmore are identical with Whirlpool appliances repair manuals.

I understand that your dryer is not heating and that's why you want to purchase a heating element. It is not advised to order or purchase a heating element without checking first the continuity of the heating circuit components. The continuity of the heating element, hi-limit thermostat, and the thermal cut-off before ordering a part. Both parts are located on the heater housing and can be accessed through the toe panel. Remove the screws attaching the toe panel to the bottom flange of the cabinet then slide the panel down and off. Remove the hex-head screw from the heater shield on the right hand side of the cabinet and remove the shield. You now have access the to heating element, hi-limit thermostat, and the thermal cut-off. Here is the tech sheet for your dryer and it is almost as good as a repair manual.

If the thermal fuse looks good with no burn marks, it should be good. You can also use an ohmmeter to test it. If it looks like it may not last too much longer, than I would replace it, they do have a slight tendency to malfunction

Thanks for the quick reply. I found the element part number. Before I order it, I was wondering if you recommend replacing any other parts along with the element? I'm a novice at this, but I'm pretty handy. So far, I've repaired my refrigerator and oven in the past. I really appreciate the advise. Also, they did not have the service manual and so far I have not been able to find it onlinr. Any advise for where I could find this would also be appreciated.

My gas dryer runs but with no heat

Most likely you need to replace the heating element that ignites the gas.just turn off the gas line unplug the dryer and remove the front cover then you will see on the bottom right there Is a heating element bolted to the gas valve with one single quarter inch bolt. You can either remove it and inspect it for little hairline cracks or check for continuity with a multimeter. If you see a crack or have no continuity replace the ignighet

Dryer won't heat

Hi there,
Well first all you may check out the heating element, it is possible that your dryer isn't heating because its heating element is defective. Heating elements are not repairable. You need to open your dryer's cabinet and locate the heating element so that you can test it. and you need a multimeter to check it out. Secondly you may check out the Thermal Fuse Once a dryer's thermal fuse has blown, it is no longer of any use. If your dryer's fuse is blown, you need to replace it. Post further comments for further help or information.......

Good Luck!!
Thanks for using FixYa!!

HE5 dryer has no heat - everything else appears to work, tube spins , controls can be set, start. But no heat. Purchased new in early 2008, may be used 2 times / week.

Several reasons this could be. There is a separate fuse for the heating element inside the unit...find it and check it. Second...The element works on a 220v system whereas the spinning and lights work on regular 110. Check the 30 amp breaker in the house. Third, the element is bad and needs to be replaced. There are only 3 or 4 major parts to a dryer. There are easy to repair if you take the time to get the repair manual and study it.

No heat-Kenmore (Whirlpool) Elite He5 Steam 110.8775

Check that there is 240 volt at the plug as sometimes a breaker will be weak on one side and only produce 120 volts which will let the drum spin but produce no heat
