Remove the fan and replace it.But before replacing the fan.First check if any thing blocking the fan from spinning. Also clean both the fan and fan motor with normal brush. Then oil the fan a bit and connect the fan. Then check out.If still the same problem then fan needs replacement. Check out.Thanks.

20+ year-old Williamson Temp-O-Matic furnace makes sound like a overly-full tumbling clothes dryer lately. Is something wrong? What might it be? Thanks!

Dear Anonymous,
Is there a possibility you have a furnace, not a clothes dryer?
If so, it sounds like you have something ( dirt? lint? expired varmit?) in or on your squirrel cage blower fan.
Someone will need to that the furnace apart and see what is going on inside.
Summertime is a good time to do furnace "maintenance service".
God bless your efforts.

My janitrol furnace started to make a lot of noise over the last few days. Could something be loose or does it need to be cleaned?

I hate to say it but it sounds like the bearing in the fan is going out. If your lucky there's a replacement...if not then a new furnace. You will have to have it looked at by a furnace tech.

Its too bad I can't hear the noise then I'd have a better answer for you, sorry.

Loud blower on my Coleman Furnace

Usually a noisy blower motor is a bad bearing. The motors now have oil impregnated bearings and you can't oil them, you have to replace them.

If it makes the noise before the blower comes on it would be the exhaust fan. If it makes the noise when the blower comes on then I would say either the blower motor or bearings to the fan.

Sounds like the low limit or high limit is out these control the fan motor. They are usually set to kick on around 150 degrees and set to go off around 95 to 100 degrees. Over heating does happen with cracked heat exchangers and it can possibly take these two items out. Normally your furnace should run approximately five minutes or a little less then your fan motor comes on and then for cooling down burners should drop and the fan motor should run again roughly five minutes or so then shut down. Times may vary as to your settings.

Furnace lights fan comes on then fan goes off furnace stays light until overtemp takes it out code flashes 4

Have some one hold the bottom door safety switch, turn furnace on wait until heating fan relay clicks, and check at terminal (Heat) & terminal (neutral or where all the white wires are located on the control board) for 115 volts to 120 volts. If voltage is present replace blower motor, if voltage drops out while running then replace control board.Turn power off to furnace, open bottom door and feel blower motor with hand, if motor is real hot replace motor. you can not oil this type of motor, it has to be replaced along with the compacitor. Good luck.

Aprilaire 760 furnace humidifier makes a loud screeching sound.

A bad circuit board should not make any noises. A bad solenoid valve could make a loud buzzing noise. If the noise is a squealing noise then you have defective bearings in the blower motor.
If you disconnect the low voltage wiring from the solenoid valve and you still hear the noise, then its not the solenoid valve.

Clunk noise Ruud Furnace

I had the same problem, the motor shaft and bearings were going bad. There was about 3/16" travel on the shaft that the blower attaches to. I replaced the motor myself and it runs nice and quiet. I have had that noise that you describe for over 8 years, but it got real noisy about a week ago. I talked to the maintance department about it where I work and they said the motor bearings were probably going bad. They were right, I took the motor out of the furnace and they took it to a parts store and got me a new one $270.00 for it. It is a special motor due to the fact that the frame mounts bolt directly onto the motor housing. Make sure if you do this job yourself that you take the motor to the parts store so that they can match it up. The guy at the store told our maintance man if it didn't require the bolt holes in the motor housing it would have been $100.00 cheaper.
