It will surely help if you are using a calling card that has a pinless dialing feature where you don't need to dial your pin. I use Onesuite.com calling card and it has that feature and sending a fax through regular fax machine is easier than having to dial your pin midpoint.

Calling cards are not meant for just calling they can also be used to send faxes. It is beneficial to use calling cards because somewhere it helps you to save a little money while faxing long distance. For faxing you just need a calling card, a fax machine and set it up as a normal fax machine. But while using calling card you need to dial your calling card number instead of receiver's number on fax machine. Next the fax machine will ask to enter the calling card PIN. After entering your PIN number your fax machine will allow you to enter your destination number with country code. Once you hear the fax tone then you just need to press "SEND" button. This is very simple process to do fax by calling cards. I also use my Reliance Global Call Enterprise Calling Cards for long distance fax. It is quite simple, cost effective and easy to use. ISSUE: How to use a calling card to fax (stand alone) with an HP PSC 2410/2510. SOLUTION:

  1. Press the Setup button.
  2. Scroll down to Speed Dial Setup and press OK .
  3. Press OK on Individual Speed Dial .
  4. Scroll to an unassigned speed dial or select and existing speed dial to edit and press Enter .
  5. Enter the number for the calling card including any responses to the IVR prompts such as Press for 1 for English , Press 1 for long distance , Please enter the PIN number , etc. Any of these responses would have to be separated by pauses to line up appropriately with the IVR prompts.
  6. The pause is done by pressing # twice on the printer until you see a minus sign (-). NOTE: All calling cards are different, you will have to know what prompts there are in regards to Language, Pin number, Long Distance, etc.
  7. Press OK on the printer after completing the speed dial.
  8. Enter the name for the speed dial and press OK .
  9. To use the speed dial, press Fax button on the printer and you will be prompted to enter a number.
  10. Press Down Arrow to select speed dials, select the appropriate speed dial and press OK .
  11. With the speed dial selected, press BLACK or COLOR start button to send the fax either in black or color.

Hi ...

It might be possible that the line is loose or the long distance calling code is incorrect. Follow the below instructions which might resolve the problem.

Sending Using a Long Distance Calling Code The telephone company or PBX system may use long distance calling codes on a phone line as a means to manage long distance calls. This service may extend to a fax phone line and for local phone calls as well. To use a calling code for faxing, enter a pause (or pauses, as necessary) in the dialing sequence to allow time for the phone system to distinguish between the phone number and the calling code. For example, if the calling code has to be entered after the phone number, press <Redial/Pause> after the long distance number and then enter the calling code.
Here is an example of a couple of variations that may be used by the phone company / PBX system. (For details on time sequence between the long distance number and when you must enter the calling code, please contact your phone company or telecommunications specialist.)
Long distance number: 212.555.1212
Calling code: 123456
Scenario One: 12125551212p123456 Scenario Two: 123456p12125551212

Note: The above scenarios include a pause (p) in between the dialing sequence. This pause may be necessary to allow the phone system to detect each set of dialing sequences. The pause length can be adjusted from one to nine seconds, the default is two seconds.

Tips to help you send a fax using a calling code.
  1. To send a fax using a calling code, it may be necessary to add a pause(s) before the next string of dialing digits. The above example shows how a calling code is used to dial a long distance fax number. To provide time before the calling code number is dialed and avoid misdialing, a pause should be added.

    Example: 12125551212p123456

The number of pauses will depend on the phone / PBX system.

It is suggested to confirm if the time before the next set of digits is dialed will always be constant. This way you can always use the same number of pauses for that dialing sequence. If needed, you can also change the pause [Pause time] length from its default 2 seconds.

  2. Connect a telephone to the fax machine.
    1. Connect a line cord from the telephone wall jack to the [L] jack (or item <1>) on the fax machine.

    2. Connect a line cord from the extension telephone port on the fax machine (top jack (or item <2>)) to an external telephone.

  3. To send a fax using a calling code, it is recommended to dial using the attached telephone.
    1. Press the <FAX> button on the operator panel.
    2. Insert the documents face-up on the ADF.

    3. Pick up the handset of the attached telephone and confirm you hear a dial tone.
    4. Dial the fax destination number on the attached telephone.
    5. When you are prompted to enter your calling code, dial it on the attached phone.
    6. When you hear the remote fax machine's high-pitched receive tones, press <Color> to send a color fax or <Black> to send a black and white fax. The audio signal heard from the handset will be cut off.
    7. Hang up the handset.
    8. When the transaction is complete, the fax machine will return to standby mode.
Don't forget to vote if this helps ... Cheers :)

I live in Saskatchewan Canada and can send Faxes to British Columbia, but I cannot recieve from there.

Make sure whoever sends you the fax is using the full fax number - if that isn't the case, I would call your phone company to make sure your fax line is capable of receiving long distance calls.

Fax using a calling card

I use a calling card for long distance faxes. You don't have to "set" anything. They just mean listen to the printer. I am not at home right now to get the specific steps, but I believe all you do is put your fax stuff in the document feeder (I don't know if you can do this directly from the computer) and enter the 1-800 number from your calling card. Then the calling card will ask for your options and you will hear it from printer. That's what they mean by monitor. Then just follow the prompts.

Can't send a fax.

This can be tricky and sometimes requires some playing around with to get the settings you need. Here is a document that HP created for just your situation. You may need to try it a few times to get the timing right but once you figure it out you should be able to use the same formula for all other fax calls long distance.

Faxing Long Distance

Hi,

To my knowledge, if the unit can send a fax message to another fax machine then it is safe to assume that there is nothing wrong with the fax.

Perhaps your problem may be more related to the type of phone subscription that you may have. Some phone providers have subscription for local calls only and restricted long distance. Alternately, there are some phones that would need a series of numbers to be pre-dialed before long distance access is granted.

Pls check with your local phone company. Additionally, you can try by calling long distance using your regular phone and see if it works. If it does, then long distance restrictions has been imposed/enabled in your Canon 3300. The procedures are better explained in the users manual. A copy of the user's manual for Mac users is here, all other downloads including those for Windows, is here.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.
