Question about Brother MFC 210C All-In-One InkJet Printer
Mr Brother MFC-210C printer is unable to self clean. I have followed the instructions in the user guide [althought they don't refer specifically to the problem I am experiencing] but machine still unable to clean and therefore won't work. What am I missing?
Go into maintenace mode by pressing ( Menu * 2 8 6 4 ) within 2 seconds. You should be in the maintenance mode now. Press 80 and scroll down to purge count, if the figure is more than 6000, press 2 7 8 3 to reset the purge count. The printer will restart and everything normal. Good Luck

In the guide, for the error you quote Brothers guidance is to check for a stuck piece paper, however it also states that if the print head is hard over to one side (righthand side if memory serves me correct), then to contact Brother. If you do so, Brother will tell you it needs to be serviced by a Brother agent, which will likely cost you more than a new one !
If it isnt a stuck piece of paper, the problem is due to the fact that Brother machines excessively self-clean. Each time they self-clean a small amount of ink is dumped in to a holding tank/sponge. When a predefined number of self-clean operations have been performed, the machine refuses to print and gives the error message you have stated. Brother state that the tank/sponge must be replaced before the counter is reset, again by a Brother agent.
However, there is a way of reseting the self-clean counter yourself - if you Google your model number and the error code somewhere in the results you'll find how to do it. The only risk of doing this without changing the tank/sponge is that it will eventually overflow and leak out the bottom, but I did my Brother all in one some time ago and have had no problems yet.

Testimonial: "Thanks for that help - much appreciated."
Yes! Fantastic...faffed all morning till I found your solution, just one thing I had to refer elsewhere to understand I needed to press 'stop/exit' at the end and then 99 to exit maintenance mode. Fingers crossed am about to print something.......holding my breath but the machine is starting....and it worked! Thanks so much
