Question about Craftsman 3 gal. Air Compressor, 1.5 hp, Horizontal k

1 Answer

My friend did not know what she was doing so she turned it on with low oil i believe. A poof of smoke came out she said. i pulled the front case with the glass peep hole and the cylinder off and the motors not siezed. there was very little oil in it too. you could barely see it at the bottom of the glass when i got it. when i plugged it in and turned it on it just made a clunk noise and did nothing. then i took it apart to see if the piston was seized.so my questions are how much oil should be in it and could the electric motor be seized. And if theres a safety switch or button for if its to low on oil. i dont have a manual so i have nothing to go on.

Hello. You may get lucky and get this running again with your plan. Fill the compressor pump with compressor oil such as API CG/CD heavy duty oil, until the oil reaches the center of the red circle in the sight glass.

AND, here is a free link to the owner manual http://www.managemylife.com/mmh/lis_pdf/OWNM/L0512094.pdf

"Ticking" may be an indication of a serious issue inside the engine, perhaps bad rod bearing or something like that. Low oil pressure isn't something to ignore.

Last week while driving on the freeway the engine suddenly lost nearly half its power.

I agree with your friend. It sounds like a blown head gasket to me, too.

The oil light is on. I check the oil stick and its has the recommended amount. When you step on the gas, the light turns off. I noticed it smells burned oil; must be from an oil leak that probably drips...

The dash light indicates oil pressure. When idleing the pressure drops too low and and light comes on. As it revs up, pressure increases.. light goes off.
You should go here and read about low pressure. Too much to copy and paste here.

The small leak onto the exhaust maybe more than just a nuisance, it is a fire hazard. Potential to catch fire. Clean off the COLD header and front pipe with a non flamable solvent cleaner. Also the engine case around the area. You may find the source of the leak.

My heat stopped working my cars blowing smoke out of the muffler and my temperature gauge is past hot but the carrs engine isnt smoking

if theres smoke coming out of the exaust then the motor is smoking. sounds like you have a blown head gasket and it's low on water is why the heat isn't working.

84 ford f-150 smoking when driving

Most likely a blown head gasket. Check your engine oil. Is your engine oil milkshake like in color? If so, you have coolant entering your engine, and it is being burned off......causing the gray smoke.

A compression check at each cylinder would confirm this diagnosis.

I just bought a 96 dodge caravan 2 days ago ive drove 150 miles today and when i went to shut it off it had smoke i raised the hood its coming almost directly from the front of the van i went to leave...

How low was the oil? It could be something as simple as some oil is leaking out of the valve covers and once it hits the exhaust manifold then it starts smoking. Usually smoke coming from the engine compartment is a result of that. Look and see if it leaks any oil while you have it parked in pavement for a while in case it has something to do with the oil change.

Good Luck

Smoke and oil smell at start up sometimes

I have a 1989 chevy silverado. my dad bought it new and never drove it. he wanted to pay it off first. after 5 years it had 15K miles on it. it then smoked everytime he cranked it after it had sit a while. The lack of driving it caused the rubber valve seals to dry rot. so now when it sits, oil seeps down between the valve and the seal and enters the piston chamber. when he cranks it, a poof of blue smoke blows out the exhaust but quickly disappears after the the initial poof of smoke.
this may be your problem also if you have abnormally low milage on the vehicle

My engine is smoking. toward the front at the bottom can u help?

The smoke could be anything from burning oil to any other lubricant from the engine, just a small leak can cause an abundance of smoke, most commonly oil, the problem with the door ajar lamp is that you have probably lost the switch that mounts in the door jam, that is probably a dealership item you can buy it from them, simple repair.

I'VE GOT NEWS FOR YOU. AN OIL PRESSURE READING OF 140 IS EXTREMELY HIGH, LIKE OFF THE SCALE HIGH! THIS IS LIKE HAVING MOST OIL LINES PLUGGED WITH GOOP YOU HAVE BEEN DUMPING IN YOU POOR CAR TO TRY TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM. I REALLY HOPE YOUR OIL READING IN WAY WRONG, BECAUSE YOU ARE ABOUT TO BLOW THE RINGS AND MOST GASKETS AND MISC. PARTS OUT THE SIDE, TOP, AND BOTTOM OF YOUR ENGINE, FIRST OFF, I WOULD NOT DRIVE LIKE THIS UNTIL YOU DO THIS. PLEASE! DRAIN YOUR OIL AND GUNK, ALL OF IT AND CHANGE YOUR FILTER. THEN ADD A OIL LIKE STRAIGHT 30 WEIGHT OR 20-40W AND PLEASE HAVE A CYLINDER COMPRESSION TEST DONE ON YOUR VEHICLE TO SEE HOW BAD YOUR COMPRESSION LOSS IS. REMEMBER, STOP LEAK AND SUCH ALL PLUG YOUR HEATER CORE, SO DON'T EXPECT HEAT THIS WINTER. SORRY, NASTY SIDE EFFECT THEY DON'T BOTHER TO TELL YOU! GOOD LUCK! LET ME KNOW HOW THINGS TURN OUT!
